«Breaking News» Rosie O'Donnell, 56, reveals she was sexually abused by her 'alcoholic' FATHER

Rosie O'Donnell has revealed that she was molested by her father as a young girl growing up in Long Island in the 1970s.

The 56-year-old actress, comic and talk show host addressed the alleged sexual abuse for the first time in an interview with Variety’s New York bureau chief Ramin Setoodehive, who is the author of the upcoming book 'Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of "The View."'

'It started very young,' O'Donnell told Setoodeh. 'And then when my mother died, it sort of ended in a weird way, because then he was with these five children to take care of.

She went on to say: 'On the whole, it's not something I like to talk about. Of course, it changes everyone. Any child who is put in that position, especially by someone in the family, you feel completely powerless and stuck, because the person you would tell is the person doing it.'

O'Donnell's father, Edward Joseph O'Donnell, passed away in 2015 in Atlantic Beach, Florida, following a bout with cancer. He was 81.

Her mother, Roseann O'Donnell, succumbed to breast cancer in 1973, when she was just 38 years old, leaving her electrical engineer husband to raise their children alone. The couple are now buried together under the same headstone at Saint Charles Cemetery in East Farmingdale, New York.

O'Donnell's explosive revelation appears in a chapter of the new book dedicated to The Rosie O'Donnell Show, which went off the air in 2002 after a six-year run.

The star of A League of Their Own has spoken in past interviews about how her father emotionally distanced himself from his children after his wife's death.

'He had his own issues and demons. He had a very tough childhood,' she told Piers Morgan in 2012. 'He had an alcoholic, abusive father and never really got the help that I think every person needs when they have lived through that as a child. I think that he had a lot of problems to deal with.'

In the same CNN interview from seven years ago, O'Donnell appeared to have alluded to the sexual abuse, telling Morgan: 'There are some unforgivable things I think that as a child, the statute of limitations has to wear off.

'You get to be 50 years old, and you can't be still angry at what your father did in 1970.'

O'Donnell has six adopted children from her two past marriages. In January, she became a grandmother for the first time when her 21-year-old daughter, Chelsea, gave birth to a baby girl.

The actress and philanthropist is currently engaged to Elizabeth Rooney, a 33-year-old mounted police officer from Massachusetts.

'Ladies Who punch' comes out in print on April 2.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
