Louis Tomlinson has been showered with praise from fans for displaying bravery and vulnerability in his new song Two Of Us, a tribute to his late mother Johannah Deakin.

The One Direction star's mother tragically died following a battle with leukemia in 2016 at the age of 43 after a year-long battle with the condition.

The singer, 27, released the track on Thursday and it garnered over 1.2m views on YouTube in less than 24 hours.

Some of the lyrics are: 'It's been a minute since I called you /Just to hear the answerphone / Yeah, I know that you won't get this

'But I'll leave a message so I'm not alone / This morning I woke up still dreaming / With memories playing through my head / You'll never know how much I miss you

'The day that they took you, I wish it was me instead.'

Fans wrote: 'Louis sweetheart you smashed it. I'm so so proud of you. #TwoOfUs'.

'#TwoOfUs is one of the best songs I've heard in a while'.

Louis previously discussed the song to House Of Solo magazine, admitting he avoided writing it for a while for fear of not getting it right.

He said: 'I just feel like, musically, I almost needed to get this song off my chest.

'People say writing is a part of therapy. In a way, I feel like I’d been avoiding writing this song because I knew I only had one chance to get it right.

'I don’t mean to be too soppy but if Two of Us can help just one other person who’s going through the tough time I went through, that would make me really happy.'

A live stream of Louis' first performance of the song was broadcast on YouTube with the singer taking to Twitter to thank his fans for supporting the single afterward.

He wrote: 'Emotional performance today but just wanna say another massive thanks to everyone for supporting the single! You’re all amazing!'

Speaking to BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat about his late mother Johannah's impact on the song, Louis explained: 'It was something I needed to get off my chest. I used to lean on my mum for a lot of things - anytime I needed advice on something she would be the first call I made.'

The star went on to describe the writing process as 'empowering' - admitting that while he is 'quite a positive person, it's sad what happened to him'.

Louis' younger sisters, Charlotte, Felicite, Daisy and Phoebe, were also on his mind during his musical comeback process, and he confessed that playing the song to them was a 'tough one'.

'Me as their big brother - if I can sing those words it'll hopefully help them too,' he explained, while also admitting he will be 'drifting off thinking of mum' while performing the song.

Louis was also spotted filming for his new music video at youth club, the Hunslet Club, in Leeds on Saturday.

It's been a long journey for Louis when it comes to his music, as he was first hoping to execute his solo success by signing to Simon Cowell's label, Syco in 2017 - a year after One Direction went on hiatus.

It was announced by Variety last week that he has been picked up by new US based record label Arista alongside Syco in the UK.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
