«Breaking News» Kate Garraway reveals she is desperately trying to contact family in New Zealand after attacks

Kate Garraway has revealed she is desperately trying to get in touch with relatives in New Zealand, following multiple mosque attacks in Christchurch.

Speaking on Friday's Good Morning Britain, the presenter said she has been trying to contact family based in Auckland and Christchurch, but with no response so far.

It comes after two gunmen opened fire on two mosques in New Zealand at 1:40pm local time on Friday, leaving 49 people dead and at least 48 injured.

Shocking: Kate Garraway has revealed she is desperately trying to get in touch with relatives in New Zealand, following multiple mosque attacks in Christchurch

As she and co-host Charlotte Hawkins reported on the then-breaking attack, Kate said: 'It's utterly cowardly but it points to a horrific bravado that they would do that and I think it is just disgusting. Everyone is shocked and the people of Christchurch are.

'I'm sure many of you at home will have relatives in New Zealand and it will be very alarming for you. Friends there.'I've got relatives and friends in Auckland and Christchurch myself that I'm trying to get in touch with.

'So we will definitely make sure that we keep you posted on everything that is happening there.'

MailOnline has contacted representatives for Good Morning Britain for more information. A representative for Kate declined to comment to MailOnline.

It comes after two gunmen opened fire on two mosques in Christchurch on Friday afternoon - Thursday night in the UK - with one live-streaming the attack on Facebook.

The gunman, who identified himself as Brenton Tarrant from Grafton, NSW, Australia, stormed the Al Noor Mosque in Christchurch on the country's South Island about 1.30pm, opened fire with a semi-automatic shotgun and a rifle on hundreds of defenceless worshippers attending Friday prayers.

A sickening 17-minute video of the unfolding horror shows the self-confessed white supremacist dressed in army fatigues firing mercilessly at people scrambling to flee, and calmly reloading when he runs out of bullets.

At about the same time, there was a second shooting at Masjid mosque in Linwood, where seven more were killed.

Police Commissioner Mike Bush has now confirmed in a statement that four people have been arrested, and one 'man in his late 20s' has been charged with murder to appear in court on Monday.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said Friday's terror attack was 'one of New Zealand's darkest days.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
