«Breaking News» Joey King and Patricia Arquette star in trailer for Hulu’s The Act, based on Gypsy Rose Blanchard

The tragic real life story of Gypsy Rose Blanchard sent shockwaves across the world in 2015 after she murdered her mother who convinced her she was ill her entire life.

And actress Joey King, 19, has now brought Blanchard's devastating plight, involving an extreme case of Munchausen by proxy, to life, as is evident in the chilling new trailer for Hulu's The Act - which is set to premiere on March 20.

Four years ago, Dee Dee Blanchard (played by Patricia Arquette) was found dead after being stabbed by daughter Gypsy and her new beau Nick Godejohn - a sequence of events that has all been captured in the 'tough to watch' trailer.

The two minute trailer for the anthology series, which has been created by Nick Antosca and Michelle Dean, shows various snippets of Gypsy's life, in which she used a wheelchair for most of her life.

Friends and attorneys revealed Dee Dee had essentially kept her daughter prisoner in their home, which was provided by Habitat for Humanity, after convincing her she had muscular dystrophy, cancer and other ailments.

Blanchard for years forced her daughter to use a wheelchair and to undergo unnecessary medical tests, which is shown in the trailer.

The clip also shows Gypsy forming a relationship with new boyfriend Nick (played by Calum Worthy) on a Christian dating website in 2015.

In text messages presented earlier in the trial, Godejohn and Gypsy generally discussed love, sex and planning a life together - until June 2015, when they began discussing needing duct tape and knives in the days before Clauddine Blanchard was killed.

Gypsy has since been sentenced to ten years in prison for second degree murder, while Nick was convicted of first-degree, and in February 2019, was sentenced to life in prison.

Four years after the case caused distress worldwide, potential viewers have rushed to Twitter to offer their opinions on the 'messed up' trailer:

'I wonder if she had any input/ part in the making of this movie.. I do feel bad for her, I felt like it was also unfair she was locked up, maybe therapy and mental health care would of been better for her. Since birth she was made to believe this was how life is supposed to be.'

'I’ll be honest I literally know nothing about this and will probably try to not know anything until after watching it! Looks really interesting though.'

'That one looks tough to watch. I hear it’s pretty messed up though.'

       MUNCHAUSEN BY  PROXY

Munchausen syndrome by proxy (MSBP) is a mental health problem in which a caregiver makes up or causes an illness or injury in a person under his or her care, such as a child, an elderly adult, or a person who has a disability. Because vulnerable people are the victims, MSBP is a form of child abuse or elder abuse.

The caregiver with MSBP may:

Victims are most often small children. They may get painful medical tests they don't need. They may even become seriously ill or injured or may die because of the actions of the caregiver.

Children who are victims of MSBP can have lifelong physical and emotional problems and may have Munchausen syndrome as adults. This is a disorder in which a person causes or falsely reports his or her own symptoms.

Doctors aren't sure what causes it, but it may be linked to problems during the abuser's childhood. Abusers often feel like their life is out of control. They often have poor self-esteem and can't deal with stress or anxiety.

The attention that caregivers get from having a sick child may encourage their behavior. Caregivers may get attention not only from doctors and nurses but also from others in their community. For example, neighbors may try to help the family in many ways-such as by doing chores, bringing meals, or giving money.

'The Act looks so good. Gypsy Rose shouldn't be in prison at all. She didn't do anything wrong. I would have done the same thing. Lots of people would. It breaks my heart that she said that she prefers being in prison than what she dealt with in the past.'

'Nothing is scarier than real life. #theact' and 'This excites me tremendously. This is one of my favorite true crime stories!!!'

'#TheAct @ATWWDpodcast and @xtineschiefer told the story first!!! Gypsy was charged for second degree murder...even though her Munchausen by Proxy ridden mom was basically torturing her. Smh.'

'Tbh, I hope Gypsy Blanchard gets out of prison early once #hulu releases their movie about the murder. She deserves justice. She was a victim. #TheAct She has done her time.'

'It's like but iirc it could never be confirmed. All they know is that she was sick enough to abuse her child and then pretend to be a struggling mother.'

Meanwhile, speaking recently about her transformation for the role with Allure, Joey said that she wasn't at all nervous about shaving her head - something that she has now done three times in the name of playing a part for TV or film.

'I've never really had an attachment to my hair. I couldn't care less what happens to it. No part of me was nervous or was second-guessing it,' she told the publication.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
