«Breaking News» Bachelor Matthew Agnew instantly wooed contestants with his 'hot nerd' persona

He's an unlikely choice for the Bachelor, but it seems the ladies love Matthew Agnew.

According to Monday's NW magazine, the 31-year-old astrophysicist was an instant hit with the female contestants at the first cocktail party.

This season's diverse selection of women were reportedly smitten with the 'hot nerd' and charmed by his intelligence.

'He seemed incredibly charming,' revealed an on-set source.

'And he had all the girls in fits of laughter and hanging off his every word.'

While last year's Bachelor, former rugby star Nick Cummins, struggled to impress the ladies early on, Matt's journey seems to be quite the opposite.

Meanwhile, the Melbourne-based academic told Woman's Day that he's looking for a woman who will complement his down-to-earth nature.

'I want someone who doesn't take themselves too seriously and we can just have a laugh and fun together,' he said.

'I'm looking for a best friend, the same way I've seen so many of my friends find one in their partners.'

While most Bachelors are known for their shirtless selfies and wild partying, Matt has led a very different life.

Photos taken over the years reveal that he is more focused on his career achievements than growing his physique.

On February 27, just days before The Bachelor began filming, Professor Sarah Maddison shared several images of Matt submitting a PhD thesis paper.

In one of the pictures, he could be seen quite literally jumping for joy.

'Super congrats to Proto-Dr @MattyAgnew - PhD thesis submitted! There is life after #phdlife!' wrote Sarah.

A whole new direction! The handsome astrophysicist, 31, will front Channel 10's flagship dating show later this year - and he really is unlike any other previous suitor

It seems there's no limit to Matt's academic accomplishments, with his PhD paper on 'solar system analogues and habitability' being published in April 2018.

In September 2016, he posed for another celebratory snap after submitting a paper on 'finding potential habitable planets in Jupiter's hosting systems'.

Although starring on The Bachelor will surely place Matt out of his comfort zone, he is certainly no stranger to the spotlight.

Meanwhile, he hasn't always sported the clean-shaven look which was on display in the first promotional photos released by Channel 10 on Wednesday.

One picture shared in 2014 by Mark Agnew, who is believed to be Matt's brother, showed the soon-to-be Bachelor with long, tied back hair and a scruffy beard.

Speaking about his upcoming TV role last week, Matt said: 'I'm genuinely interested in meeting someone and this is definitely an exciting way to do that.'

He added: 'Being The Bachelor is certainly an unorthodox way to meet someone.

'But I would never shy away from exploring an opportunity just because it's a little out of left-field.'

When asked about his plans for the future, Matt told WHO magazine he has no desire to become a full-time Instagram influencer.

Instead, he want to 'use numerical techniques to search for dynamically stable planet candidates in the habitable zones of all known multiple planet systems.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
