«Breaking News» Amber Heard is elegant in floral-themed black gown at Syrian relief work charity gala in Chicago

She's made headlines lately with the ongoing fallout from her divorce from Johnny Depp and as a star of the superhero movie Aquaman.

But Amber Heard was focused on her humanitarian work as she attended a special event in Chicago on Saturday night.

The actress, 32, was the keynote speaker at the 2019 SAMS Midwest Chapter Annual Gala where she spoke about two medical missions she has undertaken to Jordan and Lebanon.

Heard chose a full-length floral-themed black dress for the occasion.

The elegant gown was cinched at the waist and featured three-quarter sleeves and a collar.

She wore her blonde hair styled into a sophisticated updo.

The Rum Diary star traveled to the Middle East with The Syrian American Medical Society.

'Empathy is a remarkably selfless emotion,' she explained. 'It requires a person to leave the comfort of their own perceived place in the world and inhabit the experience of someone else.'

'It is an inherently frightening and disorienting state of being, one that can be extremely rewarding but also unbelievably draining.'

While she acknowledged that she herself has no medical training, she said she did have something to offer thanks to her celebrity.

'What I can do is use my platform and my skill as a storyteller to inspire others to take small incremental actions in support of a common cause,' Heard said.

The actress, who has been a strong advocate for the importance of charity work and helping those in need, has been devoted to helping displaced and injured Syrians get proper medical attention during her partnership with SAMS.

The global medical relief organization is working on the front lines of the crisis in Syria, in neighboring countries and beyond, to save lives and alleviate suffering.

Last year, Heard spent a week at a camp that had about 660,000 displaced Syrians. It also doubles as a rehabilitation center for those who have been injured.

'My biggest takeaway from this trip is the indelible mark left on my soul after spending a week on the ground here…' she confessed, as reported by The Borgen Project

SAMS primarily operates in Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey where it has provided support to 110 medical facilities and over 3,000 personnel. More recently, its programs have begun to expand to other countries that are facing extreme poverty.

In recent years, Heard has also devoted her off-screen time to organizations like Amnesty International, Art of Elysium and has helped raise awareness about domestic and sexual violence.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
