«Breaking News» Agents seize $77 million of cocaine at New York-area port

More than a tonne of cocaine with a street value of $77million has been seized in New York before it was placed on shipping freights to Rotterdam and London in one of the largest international drug busts in 25 years.

The drugs were seized at Port New York/Newark on February 28 after British intelligence officers from the National Crime Agency alerted US officials.

It had come from an as yet unidentified country in South America and was due to be transported first to Rotterdam in the Netherlands before reaching London, its final destination.

It remains unclear who was behind the drugs and whether this is a new route for criminal enterprises but government agencies on both sides of the Atlantic celebrated the bust as one of the largest in decades.

It is common for drugs to be shipped to Europe from South America via the Caribbean, where there are less stringent checks on shipping containers and a variety of ports and shipping types.

The drugs were packaged into 60 individual parcels. They had a combined weight of 3,200lbs (roughly 1400 kilograms) which is 1.6 tonnes.

It is unclear if the full container of all 60 packages was due to reach London or if there were to be drop-offs along the way.

A Customs and Border Patrol spokesman refused to answer specific questions about the drugs, their origins or their route when approached by DailyMail.com on Monday.

They said only that was an 'ongoing investigation' and that the bust was the result of 'shared law enforcement information'.

Both the NCA and the CBP touted is as a major success in press releases, however.

'Cocaine, New York’s nemesis of the 90’s, is back, indicating traffickers push to build an emerging customer base of users mixing cocaine with fentanyl.

'This record breaking seizure draws attention to this new threat and shows law enforcement’s collaborative efforts in seizing illicit drugs before it gets to the streets and into users’ hands,' DEA Special Agent in Charge Ray Donovan said.

Dave Hucker, regional head of operations for the NCA, said: 'This is a significant international seizure made possible by our partnerships with law enforcement in the US, and taking this amount of cocaine out of circulation will be a massive hit for the organised crime group involved.

'While this seizure was made on the other side of the Atlantic there is no doubt in my mind that a proportion of these drugs would have ended up on the streets of the UK.

'We know there are direct links between drug distribution and street violence, intimidation and exploitation in UK towns and cities.

'These kind of seizures demonstrate the role the NCA plays in preventing that.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
