«Breaking News» White House says Trump 'condemns all acts of violence' after MAGA supporter attacks journalist

The White House condemned violence against journalists on Tuesday on behalf of the president after one of his supporters assaulted a cameraman during a rally.

A Trump supporter wearing a 'Make America Great Again' hat laid hands on a BBC cameraman in what one correspondent for the network described as an 'incredibly violent attack' and another said took place as President Donald Trump whipped his crowd into a 'frenzy' against the media in El Paso, Texas.

Washington correspondent Gary O'Donoghue, who is blind, said his cameraman Ron Skeans was filming the rally when the attack that was caught on camera occurred.

He said a Trump supporter mounted the press gallery and pushed the camera into his colleague, then pushed Skeans, in the middle of the president's rally.

'It was an incredibly violent attack. Fortunately our cameraman is fine, he is made of stern stuff,' O'Donoghue said.

Neither the White House nor the Trump campaign issued a public apology to Skeans, and it took more than 18 hours for the president to condemn the unidentified supporter's conduct.

White Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said late in the day on Tuesday that Trump doesn't believe that violence against anyone, including journalists, is acceptable.

'President Trump condemns all acts of violence against any individual or group of people - including members of the press. We ask that anyone attending an event do so in a peaceful and respectful manner,' she said. 'For questions around security at Trump campaign events please contact the campaign directly.'

Her statement followed a call by White House Correspondents' Association Chairman Olivier Knox for the president to apologize.

Knox said: 'The White House Correspondents’ Association condemns the physical attack on our colleague at the president’s rally in El Paso, Texas. We are relieved that, this time, no one was seriously hurt. The president of the United States should make absolutely clear to his supporters that violence against reporters is unacceptable.'

O'Donoghue posted footage from Skeans' camera to Twitter. The BBC camerman's shot was focused onTrump before jolting away.

As the camera appears to visibly bounce around for around 10 seconds, the screen refocuses on a man in a red 'Make America Great Again' cap who is being restrained by another man in a black t-shirt.

The Trump supporter is then led out of the press area and off the stage.

'This is a constant feature of these rallies - a goading of the crowds against the media,' O'Donoghue said of the attack on Tuesday. 'I have been spat at before, they hurl abuse at American colleagues, in particular.'

O'Donoghue said Trump's 2020 reelection campaign will be as 'hostile and ill-tempered and divisive as the one we saw last time' based on his experience.

He was referring to incidents in 2016 at rallies, which included a Trump supporter punching a protester and the president offering to pay his backers legal fees if they found themselves in similar situations.

'If you see somebody getting ready to throw a tomato, knock the crap out of them, would you? Seriously, OK? Just knock the hell ...,' he said at a 2016 rally in Iowa. 'I promise you I will pay for the legal fees. I promise, I promise.'

Trump said once that he wanted to punch a protester at Las Vegas rally.

'He's walking out with big high-fives, smiling, laughing,' Trump said. 'I'd like to punch him in the face, I'll tell you.'

The president later supported and applauded a GOP politician running for Congress in a special election who punched a reporter.

He has continuously encouraged his supporters at rallies, though the mid-term elections, to shout down the media, which he routinely refers to as the 'enemy' and 'fake news.'

It was during one of those instances on Monday night that a Trump supporter attacked the BBC's cameraman.

Speaking to a packed stadium that holds about 8,000 in El Paso, Trump slammed the 'dishonest media' in his remarks.

BBC Washington editor Eleanor Montague was also standing in the press gallery when the attack happened. She said, 'The crowd had been whipped up into a frenzy against the media by Trump and other speakers all night.'

A BBC spokeswoman said Skeans was 'violently pushed and shoved by a member of the crowd' as he covered the rally.

'The man was removed by security and Ron is fine. The president could see the incident and checked with us that all was OK,' she said, 'It is clearly unacceptable for any of our staff to be attacked for doing their job.'

A Trump s...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
