«Breaking News» Rising Labour star Angela Rayner and Tony Blair's Lord Cashpoint 'plot to topple Corbyn'

Labour rising star Angela Rayner is plotting to seize the party leadership with backing from Tony Blair’s ‘Lord Cashpoint’, allies of Jeremy Corbyn have claimed.

Mrs Rayner, 38 – who left school when she was a pregnant 16-year-old – was spotted dining in the House of Lords last week with Lord Levy, who raised more than £100 million for Mr Blair. The meeting came after sources told The Mail on Sunday that Mrs Rayner, the party’s education spokesman, was now despairing that Mr Corbyn could ever lead the party to power.

The lunch came hard on the heels of the Labour leader’s much criticised performance against Theresa May in Tuesday’s Commons Brexit showdown – branded a ‘car crash’ by even normally loyal MPs.

Following his speech, members of his frontbench team refused to vote for proposals put forward by former Labour Minister Yvette Cooper to delay Brexit.

Last night, one Corbyn ally said: ‘We know exactly what Angela is up to here and it’s not helping anybody. With Brexit in crisis and the Tories on the ropes, the last thing Labour needs is leadership speculation and splits.’

The fury at Mrs Rayner’s ‘disloyalty’ is all the greater because the Labour leader’s inner circle at one time hailed her as his ‘heir apparent’, with Mr Corbyn singling her out for praise in his 2017 party conference speech.

The Ashton-under-Lyne MP’s supporters have focused on her ‘back story’ as a former state school girl who grew up on a council estate in Stockport and had to be her mother’s carer from the age of ten.

She became a grandmother at the age of 37 14 months ago, joking she saw herself as a ‘gangsta granny’.

But suspicions that she was plotting to succeed Mr Corbyn deepened after she was seen lunching on Wednesday with Lord Levy in the Lords’ Barry Room restaurant.

The peer is seen as a ‘toxic’ figure in Corbyn’s Labour party because of his pivotal role in cementing Mr Blair in power – and for speaking out against the Corbyn regime’s failure to tackle anti-Semitism.

He was dubbed ‘Lord Cashpoint’ because of his extraordinary success in raising money between Mr Blair winning the leadership in 1994 and leaving Downing Street in 2007.

But he was also never far from controversy, being arrested and questioned in connection with the ‘Cash for Honours’ inquiry by the Metropolitan Police in 2006, although no charges were made and the police removed all details from their files.

Former care worker Mrs Rayner, a trade union representative before becoming an MP in 2015, has rapidly emerged as one of the stars of Mr Corbyn’s front bench.

But she has made few efforts to pretend she is a fully paid-up fan of the Labour leader, privately telling colleagues she was no Corbynista.

In the last year, she has undergone a radical image change after going on a strict calorie-controlled diet and losing weight. Friends have insisted the diet is nothing to do with her future ambitions, denying she had explained it by saying: ‘People don’t vote for a fat Prime Minister.’

A source close to Mrs Rayner said: ‘She met Lord Levy at his request to talk about education.’

When asked about his meeting with Mrs Rayner, Lord Levy said: ‘That’s my business and not yours.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
