Atlanta has closed a pedestrian bridge specifically built to help ease the flow of people attending the Super Bowl LIII Sunday, costing the city a whopping $27million for seemingly no reason.
The decision came as a result of security concerns, city officials said, so now football fans won't be able to take the Northside Drive bridge to the Mercedes Benz Stadium before the New England Patriots play the Los Angeles Rams.
Instead those arriving at the Dome, GWCC or CNN Center MARTA train stops will have to cross four lanes of car traffic in the Georgia city so tens of thousands of attendees will trickle slowly into the venue.

Northside Drive bridge to the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta will be closed to the general public heading to the Super Bowl LIII Sunday
City officials said it was due to the security risk of the stadium (pictured) being very close by
'This event has been categorized by the federal government as a Special Event Assessment Rating (SEAR) Level 1,' a spokesperson told the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
'The FBI and NFL in consultation with other security partners made the determination to close the bridge to the public ahead of the event. However, the bridge will be open for attendees to exit at the conclusion of the game.'
The confirmation came after a report Monday that indicated the company that owns the Atlanta Falcons team, and MARTA had alluded to the bridge being closed off to the general public.
It seems the new bridge – which began construction in 2016 - was also too effective at getting visitors to the doorstep of the stadium, potentially posing a security risk.
Sports lovers will however be able to leave the game via the LED light-equipped bridge that went $10million over budget to be completed in time for the annual occasion.
Ticket-holders and people working at the venue, are likely to be grateful for snake-shaped connection it when it comes to clearing the area post-game.
The connection cost Georgia taxpayers $27million which was $10million over budget
For VIPs and staff however, the bridge is reserved for them to gain speedy access to the NFL event while the general public goes through various check points further away.
It's irritating news for locals who were told the link was being constructed for the people of the Vine City community when Mayor Kasim Reed was in office until 2018.
After learning the real purpose of the bridge later in 2016, many of those going to the Super Bowl won't even be able to benefit from paying for it via taxes.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
