«Breaking News» MasterChef: Ottilie serves raw chicken to John Torode and Gregg Wallace

A MasterChef contestant left viewers reeling after serving up a plate of raw chicken in last night's first-round cooking challenge.

Marketing manager Ottilie hoped to impress the judges with her succulent chicken thighs and Spanish stew, but her hopes were dashed when a horrified Gregg Wallace and John Torode refused to eat the uncooked meat.

Despite impressing with her spicy white bean and chorizo stew, the 27-year-old amateur cook said she knew she was a 'goner' after serving up a plate of raw chicken.

Ottilie, who dreams of opening her own deli in the Yorkshire Dales, had hoped to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the BBC One show but was one of three cooks booted off after the first round on Wednesday night.

She whipped up a plate of chicken thighs with saffron rice, roasted sweet potatoes and asparagus with a smoked garlic butter, telling Gregg: 'It doesn't have to look pretty as long as it tastes nice.'

Ottilie added: 'My tactic for winning John and Gregg over is flavour, flavour, flavour. And even if something's gone wrong, if something packs a punch that will hopefully be a safety blanket.'

However John raised concerns early on, saying: 'That stew probably needs a lot longer than ten minutes, however the ingredients are right.

'There's chorizo, tomatoes chicken... that works really well together. It could be really delicious.'

When it came to the tasting, Gregg told her: 'The sweet potato in the stew is new one for me, but I like it because it's broken down and given more sweetness to a sweet stew.

'But as you can clearly see, not only is the chicken skin not cooked but the chicken itself is not cooked.'

Fellow judge John gingerly took a mouthful before admitting: 'I can't eat that.'

Reflecting on the culinary disaster afterwards, Ottilie told cameras: 'After that chicken, I think I'm a goner.

'I'm cross that it was such a rookie error but I'm pleased it wasn't a total and utter disaster and they liked some bits.'

Speaking after she was booted off, Ottilie conceded: 'You can't do undercooked chicken on MasterChef. So I'm just pleased that I did it, but a little bit *eurgh* about some of the slip-ups.'

Horror: Fans took to Twitter following the raw chicken scene, with many correctly predicting Ottilie would be booted off the show. One wrote: 'Raw chicken not off to a good start'

Viewers at home were astonished, calling Ottilie's mistake 'the most basic-est of basic errors', with one tweeting: 'Raw chicken on #masterchef get your coat on love!'

Another wrote: 'Someone just served raw chicken on #masterchef. I'm an awful cook and I'd still do better than that.'

This year saw the return of the MasterChef Market, stocked full of produce from which contestants had to invent and then cook one dish.

Last night's 'market' featured ingredients included smoked haddock, chicken thighs, pork mince, chorizo, Parma ham and tiger prawns.

Contestants had just an hour and 10 minutes to prove they were good enough to stay in the competition, and after tasting all seven dishes, John and Gregg decided which four cooks were good enough to stay, while three cooks were sent packing.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
