«Breaking News» Man, 86, sends heartwarming letter to eBay seller who sold VHS player letting him watch family video

A Missouri man who sold his old VHS player on eBay for $40 was stunned when he received a heartfelt letter from the 86-year-old buyer.

Matt Shoukry, from St Louis, didn't think much of the sale until he read the thank you note from the Phoenix-based buyer named Don, explaining his joy at being able to relive memories of loved ones he'd lost.

The pensioner snapped up the vintage device when he purchased an item on the auction website for the first time, he revealed in a February 10 letter.

The touching note from Arizona, which was typed up, tells how the buyer was inspired to go online after rediscovering the tapes.

Eager to see what was on them, the seemingly mundane purchase enabled him to watch footage from big occasions that bring back fond memories.

'I watched tapes of my retirement party from 25 years ago which I had never seen before. Jeez, were we young. Then a tape of my wedding with all the family and friends, many of which are no longer around,' the letter reads about the 'amazing' device that looks 'new and unused'.

After explaining that he only managed to see footage from his past after 'some issues getting it going which were mine and not the player', he continued: 'Then skiing trips, kids growing up, travels, and most importantly the gentle maturing of my family.'

The tear-jerking note mentioned Shoukry's 'care', 'efforts' and 'promptness' – all adjectives bound to boost sales on his eBay account.

Explaining that he sent the letter – which stood out to Shoukry because details on the envelope were handwritten – because he thought Shoukry would appreciate how someone enjoyed the offer, Don said each tape 'was more fun than the last'.

Before signing off, the letter's writer added that the pleasure was 'all thanks to your generous selling' of the old VHS player that was shipped a few days after the sale.

Shoukry told Fox 2 that he sat down with his girlfriend to read the mail and they 'we're both on the verge of tears reading it'.

The story also touched people on social media who shared similar anecdotes and said they cried after seeing the man's letter.

Telling the station there's a need for VHS players on eBay because you can't go to stores such as Best Buy or Walmart to buy them anymore, now he plans on gifting the man even further.

'I'm going to frame (the letter) and put it next to my desk in the house because it means a lot to me,' Shoukry said. 'I'm going to offer to digitize his videos so he doesn't have to worry about his tapes degrading,' he said.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
