White House senior adviser Ivanka Trump is making a new push for a federal paid family leave program as Democratic presidential hopeful Kirsten Gillibrand delivered her own plan and offered to educate President Donald Trump on the subject.
The president's daughter was on Capitol Hill Wednesday morning for an hour long meeting with Republican senators about one of her top policy issues.
'Today we had a productive conversation about paid family leave policy focused on the bipartisan desire to find a solution that supports American workers and families. We are seeking to build consensus around policy that can garner enough votes to be passed into law and thank the Senators on both sides of the aisle who are working together towards that goal,' she said in a statement afterward.

Ivanka Trump is making a renewed push for a plan
The first daughter met with Sens. Bill Cassidy, Marco Rubio, Joni Ernst, and Mike Lee on Capitol Hill in Cassidy's office.
Her push comes as Democrats have a proposal of their own.
Leading the charge is Gillibrand, a leader in the #metoo movement who is positioning herself as the feminist in the Democratic presidential primary contest.
She offered to sit down with president on the issue.
'I will sit down with any Republican who wants to talk about a paid leave plan including President Trump,' she said at a press conference on Capitol Hill Tuesday. 'That's an invitation.'
Gillibrand met with Ivanka Trump on the issue last year.
With five women running for the Democratic nomination, it's Gillibrand who's focusing on her female credentials, describing herself as a 'young mom' when she announced her bid and told The New York Times she is running a 'women plus' campaign platform.
Her plan focuses on both parental leave and help for those who need time off to care for a sick family member.
Gillibrand's Family And Medical Insurance Leave Act (FAMILY) would give 12 weeks of paid time off for men and women and applies those who need leave to care for a family member with a serious illness. It would pay for the program out of payroll taxes.
The measure has 161 House co-sponsors and 34 Senate co-sponsors.
There is a sense of bipartisan support in Washington on the issue but the devil is in the details as the two parties disagree on the specifics.
Ivanka Trump said the bipartisan spirit is encouraging.
'It's encouraging to see members on both sides of the aisle putting forward paid family leave proposals,' she said in a statement.
Republicans have put their focus on existing programs to guarantee paid family leave.
And Rubio has offered a proposal to address the financial hardship that new parents face when they have to take off work several weeks for the birth or adoption of a child by allowing them to draw from their Social Security benefits.
Such a move which would result in a three- to six-month delay in receiving those benefits upon retirement but has a neutral cost. His measure has yet to receive any co-sponsors.
The Republican Party has struggled on the issue of pain family leave in the past.

The number of women in the workforce is at an all time high and the United States is one of the few industrialized countries with no mandatory leave law.
And while woman look to be a huge influence in the 2020 election, some Republicans worry about government overreach with legislation on the issue.
Ivanka Trump, however, has made paid family leave one of her passion projects.
It is part of her 'American Working Families' portfolio, which includes items like vocational education and workforce development.
She has been working with lawmakers and outside groups on a legislative solution since her father took office two years ago.
She has said in the past that she is open minded to the type of program the federal government passes, and she has met with lawmakers and political groups invested in the issue on both sides of the aisle.
President Trump has crystallized a paid leave policy in each of his State of the Union addresses, but his administration has not succeeded in building a coalition that's broad enough to approve any one potential program.
Gillibrand slammed on Tuesday, saying he had mentioned paid family leave in his speech but 'doesn't actually try to pass a real paid leave bill.'
President Trump noted in last week's State of the Union that he was again including funds for a national leave program for new parents in the annual budget he presents to Congress. His daughter, Ivanka, is seen here applauding during the address
The idea of establishing a paid leave program that's managed by the federal government received a line of support last Tuesday in his speech to a Joint Session of Congress.
'I am also proud to be the first President to include in my budget a plan for nationwide paid family leave - so that every new parent has the chance to bond with their newborn child,' he said. 'There could be no greater contrast to the beautiful image of a mother holding her infant child than the chilling displays our Nation saw in recent days.'

The president’s daughter was on Capitol Hill...
It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
