Hugh Jackman is working on a sequel to the 2017 musical hit The Greatest Showman.


The film's director Michael Gracey made clear that the wheels are grinding toward a second installment of the hit musical, according to The Sun.  


'When a movie becomes as big a success as this, it’s only natural there is demand for a sequel,' Gracey told publication while in London. 'So those discussions have started and we are working on one right now.'

Jackman starred in the film as P.T. Barnum, acting alongside Zac Efron, who played Phillip Carlyle, and Zendaya, who played Anne Wheeler.


Gracey opened up to the the outlet about the eight-year process in making the motion picture, which hit theaters in December 20, 2017.

'There were huge doubts about it for a very long time,' he said, 'and some backers withdrew their money.'


The film totaled more than $434 million at the box office internationally, with more than $174 million coming in domestically.

An insider told the publication that the film's strong showing at the box office left egg on the faces of many a Hollywood naysayer.


'The critics hated it and it was predicted to be a massive flop,' the source told The Sun. 'But then people power took over and there hasn't been a box office sensation like it in years.'  


According to the report, it was not immediately clear which performers, aside from Jackman, would be coming aboard for the second installment. Songwriting tandem Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, known professionally as Pasek and Paul, were expected to sign on.

The 50-year-old Australia native got back into character as Barnum Wednesday as he performed in a London’s O2 Arena for the Brit Awards, as he was flanked by costumed dancers on a lavish, circus-themed stage decked out with pyrotechnics.


Jackman didn't deny a sequel was in the offing when he spoke with the BBC on the red carpet at the award show when asked if a second installment was coming.


'For an actor I'm a bad liar,' he said. 'I have heard talk about it. But I don't know.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
