«Breaking News» Howard Schultz swipes at AOC's Green New Deal

Presidential hopeful Howard Schultz has taken aim at the Green New Deal agenda championed by Democrats including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

The billionaire former Starbucks CEO, who is considering an independent run for the White House, called the Democratic pledges 'unrealistic' and saying it was 'immoral' to build up trillions of dollars in debt.

The Democratic proposals include a federal jobs guarantee, national health care coverage and a promise to produce 100 per cent of America's energy from renewable sources.

Schultz's comments will put further distance between Schultz and much of the Democratic base, which fears the billionaire could split the anti-Trump vote in 2020.

Discussing the Green New Deal proposals at a CNN town hall event, he said politicians had to be 'sensible' about their proposals.

He said: 'When I read the proposed bill in terms of the Green New Deal, I read that by 2030 they're suggesting that every building in America becomes clean-energy.

'Just to put that in perspective because it's not realistic, that would mean that between 2,000 and 3,000 buildings a day would have to be reconstructed.

'Let's be sensible about what we're suggesting, let's not just throw stuff against a wall because it's a good slogan.

'When I see politicians start throwing things out that I know are not realistic, that is not being honest from the American people.

'I don't understand how you're going to get a job for everybody, how you're going to give free college to everybody, how you're going to create clean energy throughout the country in every building in the land.

'I think it's immoral to suggest that we can tally up $20tn, $30tn, $40tn, $50tn of debt to solve a problem that could be solved in a different way.

'It's not that they're disingenuous, I think they're well-intentioned, this is not personal, I just don't agree this is the right way to approach things.'

The Green New Deal has been put forward in a congressional resolution by Rep. Ocasio-Cortez and Democratic Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts.

Mitch McConnell has said the Senate will vote on the deal, in a Republican bid to expose tensions among Democrats, some of whom are skeptical of the plans.

Schultz threw his hat in the 2020 ring last month, saying: 'I love our country, and I am seriously considering running for president as a centrist independent.'

But he has been viewed with suspicion by many Democrats, who fear a third-party candidate could help Trump win re-election.

He also drew criticism this week for saying he did not 'see color', a comment which many Democrats saw as downplaying racial inequality.

One poll showed him with just a four per cent favorable rating compared to 40 per cent who viewed him unfavorably, with the majority having no opinion.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
