«Breaking News» Denzel Washington reveals the secret behind his award-winning characters is his BARBER of 30 years

Hollywood superstar Denzel Washington has revealed one of the key secrets to his successful career on the big screen - his barber.

DailyMailTV has obtained footage of Washington honoring Larry M Cherry on stage Sunday night at the Hollywood Beauty Awards, admitting that his barber acts as his confidante, psychiatrist and psychotherapist on all his movies.

And Cherry says that the double Oscar winner uses him to create and carve the famous characters beloved by the world.

The pair spoke of their mutual love and lifted the veil on their secret partnership, which goes beyond just a quick trim and beard tidy.

The Malcolm X star revealed that Cherry's nickname is 'Seldom Seen' as he is a silent and hidden support on sets.

He smiled as he called him 'my man, my brother, my friend..Larry Cherry.'

The actor, 64, has had Cherry on his team since he worked with him on the 1992 biopic Malcom X, directed by Spike Lee.

After hitting it off with Washington, he's continued to be his hair stylist from Courage Under Fire, The Siege and the Bone Collector in the mid to late 90s through to last year's The Equalizer 2.

Their other collaborations include Training Day, John Q, Man On Fire, the Manchurian Candidate, Inside Man, American Gangster, The Taking Of Pelham 123, Unstoppable and Flight, among others.

Standing on stage to hand him Outstanding Achievement In Hairstyling, Washington smiled: 'We go back over thirty years, we have made 28, 29 films.’

Laughing he added: 'He is my barber...they still say barber? He can cut hairs!'

He then turned serious: 'He is my confidante, psychologist, psychiatrist. He has done everything. He is a consummate professional.

Washington said of Cherry: 'He is quiet. He stays out of the way but always has the solution, but never takes credit and he is usually right.

'He has cut my hair from Mo Better Blues to Fences to Malcolm X; every movie I have ever done in the last thirty or more years , Larry Cherry was right there.

'His nickname is Seldom Seen, because he stays out the way. He is always there , but you never know where he is year. He is seldom seen.

'He is a great brother and friend, and a friend for life, and now he takes care of my son as well.'

The pair then did a military like salute, which is their lucky daily greeting, before hugging on the stage.

Cherry was visibly overwhelmed as he took the stage to accept his award, saying he was left 'speechless' by the honor.

On the red carpet, Cherry told DailyMailTV he's learned from Washington over the years.

'The love I have for that man over the year's we've worked together, the respect, the stuff I've learned from him, my approach to film making, my approach to characters...it's been overwhelming.'

The hairstylist said Washington has taught him how to pay 'attention to detail' and revealed some of their tricks for molding the perfect characters for the actor when he's on a film.

'When we do a film we go in depth. We try to find out what that character is really like and then we collaborate together. So when you see that movie you believe that character,' Cherry said.

The Hollywood Beauty Awards were established in 2014 and recognize excellence in hair, makeup, styling and photography.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
