'That was my best friend. She was only four, but that was my best friend,' the devastated father told ABC 13.
Martel also recalled the moment he arrived to the hospital as doctors were trying to bring her back to life.
'I said, "Maybe if she hears my voice..." I know she's getting up. I'm praying, I'm praying, because I believe in God. So I'm just waiting for her to wake up,"' Grinage told the station.
Tragically, Ashanti died from pneumonia, an infection that may develop during or after the flu.
Martel told the station that doctors didn't check Ashanti for the infection when they brought her to the emergency room the first time with a 103-degree fever on January 29.
Ashanti (left and right) was rushed to the hospital on January 29. She was given medication and sent home. On January 31, her family rushed her back to the hospital where she later died

'She wasn't even running fever at this time, we just knew she was very sluggish and she wasn't eating,' Martel told KTVT last week.
Instead, she was given medicine and sent home.
Two days later, the family rushed Ashanti to the hospital again because her symptoms had continued.
'I'm mad at the hospital. I'm mad at God. I can't lie to you,' Martel told ABC.
He said he wished he would've asked the doctors to check his little girl for pneumonia.
'When I think about my baby, that tears me down man. That's what I was living for. I told her I wasn't gonna let nothing bad happen to her. I used to preach that to her,' Martel said.

According to the girl's family, she had not received a flu vaccination.

'We cannot predict the intensity, severity or duration of the flu season from year to year,' said Dr Christopher Perkins, Director of the Dallas County Health and Human Services.
'The best way to protect yourself and others is to get your seasonal flu shot.'
According to the girl's aunt, Ashanti's mother also ended up in the ER with similar symptoms as her daughter.
Ashanti's mother has spent the last week recovering, Nereida Adrian Olivarez said on GoFundMe.
The family has raised more than $18,000 for funeral expenses.
'From the bottom of my heart which feels so deep, dark, and empty at this time I am asking you to please provide prayers for our family,' Olivarez stated.

‘I ...
It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
