The glamorous world of Barbie just became a whole lot more welcoming for children with disabilities, after Mattel announced the launch of new disabled dolls, one of which has a prosthetic leg, while the other is in a wheelchair.
Joining the Fashionistas line of 'diverse' barbies in the fall, children will now be able to dress up and play with Barbie in a wheelchair, as well as a Barbie with a prosthetic leg.
In their official Instagram post Barbie wrote: 'Over the years, the #Barbie #Fashionistas line has evolved to be more reflective of the world girls see around them.
'We’re excited to expand our offerings as the most diverse and inclusive doll line in the world. Shop the new Fashionistas this Fall!'
The wheelchair and prosthetic leg Barbies will be added to the Fashionistas range in the fall
Mattel's vice president Kim Culmone told Teen Vogue: 'We’re going to be introducing a doll in a wheelchair and a doll representing physical disabilities. She has a prosthetic limb.'
She added that there will be 'additional body sizes — a Barbie with a smaller bust and less-defined waist. A wheelchair or doll in a wheelchair was one of the most requested items through our consumer hotline.
'It's important to us to listen to our consumers.'
The Fashionistas line of dolls which the disabled dolls will join feature 'even more skin tones, body types, hairstyles and fashions'.
The range of Barbies was launched in 2009 and introduced new body types; as of today parents can buy their children Original, Tall, Curvy and Petite dolls.
Prices range from $10 up to $30.
The company had previously released Becky the Paralympic champion in the 1990s
In addition they advertised how there were more than a hundred 'diverse' looks at launch, with those numbers growing with the addition of the disabled Barbies.
Mattel - which owns the iconic doll - says: 'The Barbie brand has always reflected the times.'
The Ken doll has also been revamped with three new body types: Original, Broad and Slim.
It is not the brand's first foray into making disabled Barbies, with a Paralympic champion named Becky having been launched in the 1990s.
Barbie launched a hijab-wearing doll in 2017 based on Ibtihaj Muhammad of the US Olympic fencing team.
The hijab Barbie can be bought for $30.99 and accessories such as Nike shoes can be added to her look.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
