And This Morning fans were left seething when Eamonn Holmes, 59, called his devoted wife Ruth Langsford, 58, 'very fat' during Wednesday's New Year segment. 

Riled up at home, viewers furiously typed scathing comments attacking the presenter for 'showing up his wife' on-air with his 'derogatory comment'.

'Fancy calling your wife fat on TV eamonn. Show her up a bit more.' One fan wrote, leading the troops' attack on social media. (sic)

Eamonn took the scathing swipe at his wife of nearly nine years when the pair discussed New Year's resolutions.

The presenter didn't hold back when he branded Ruth 'very fat' when she said she was only allowed 1,200 calories a day because of her 'bulk, age and height'.

Eamonn quipped: 'That's because you're very fat, that's why.'

He had previously shared: 'Ruth has done the typical trap where she said lose weight. Obviously.

'She’s got one of these app things that told her how many calories she’s restricted to, bearing in mind her bulk, how much intake she can have a day.'

Jaws dropped at home and Ruth was gobsmacked when her husband made the brazen comment during their appearance on This Morning.

She said: 'Oh my goodness, you're going to get "stop being mean to your wife".' 

Eamonn defended himself: 'I'm only stating the facts.'

Fans didn't shy away from making their anger known as they took to social media to criticise Eamonn's behaviour towards his wife.

One admirer wrote: 'If i was Ruth i would have given a big dig in Ribs for saying she's FAT you should look at yourself when your sitting down the buttons on your shirt look as they are going to pop of and your jacket, think it's about time you went on the DIET or get bigger clothes.'

Another fan tweeted in support: 'Eamon only managed to last 4 minutes before making a derogatory comment to Ruth. Bored of seeing their boring relationship. Switched off.'

It was back to reality for Eamonn and Ruth after they returned to work to present the first show of This Morning in the new year.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
