«Breaking News» Michael Schumacher and his wife remain 'a perfect couple', his manager says in rare update

Michael Schumacher still has a 'bunch of close and very good friends' and remains 'really close' with his family, his manager has revealed.

The Formula 1 great suffered life-changing head injuries in a ski accident in the French Alps in December 2013 and has been battling to recover ever since.

He has not been seen publicly since the accident and details about the German's condition are scarce.

But his family's manager, Sabine Kehm, does provide occasional statements and has now given an interview revealing Schumacher is 'still really close' with his family and that he and wife Corinna remain 'a perfect couple'.

Speaking on the podcast Beyond The Grid, Kehm spoke of the enduring importance to the driver of his loving family.

She said the German's loved-ones had always helped him to escape the intense demands that came with being a racing driver and global celebrity.

'Michael clearly had his family,' she said. 'Corinna [and Michael] they were such a perfect couple and they are still a perfect couple if you ask me,' she said.

'When he went home and the kids would come in, Formula One was far away. And he needed that privacy.

'His family has always been his charge in a way. Family-wise he was - and still is - really close with his family.

'Secondly, Michael managed to have friends from his childhood until now. That's a nice thing as well, he's always had them around... he has a bunch of close and very good friends.'

Earlier this month, Corinna issued a rare statement thanking fans ahead of the German driver's 50th birthday.

She told her husband's fans that 'we are doing everything humanly possible to help him' as he battles to recover from his devastating ski accident.

The 49-year-old also said the family would celebrate the former Ferrari driver's 'victories, records and jubilation' as he turned 50.

'You can be sure that he is in the very best of hands and that we are doing everything humanly possible to help him,' a Facebook statement said.

'Please understand if we are following Michael's wishes and keeping such a sensitive subject as health, as it has always been, in privacy.

'At the same time we say thank you very much for your friendship and wish you a healthy and happy year 2019.'

Earlier in the statement, she thanked fans 'from the bottom of our hearts' and announced the launch of the Official Michael Schumacher App.

'We are very happy to celebrate Michael's 50th birthday tomorrow together with you and thank you from the bottom of our hearts that we can do this together,' she wrote.

Such statements are rare and in the past the family and their management team have insisted Schumacher's health is a private matter.

The German Formula 1 great hit the right side of his head on a rock, splitting open his helmet when he fell while skiing in 2013.

Schumacher was rushed to hospital where he underwent several life-saving surgeries and spent the next six months in a coma.

In April 2014, he woke up and was taken from the hospital in Grenoble to a private location, believed to be his house near Lake Geneva, where he is being cared for.

It is thought that Michael is being tended to by a team of 15 physicians who provide round-the-clock care at a cost of £115,000-per-week.

At the time of his release from hospital, his wife Corinna issued a statement asking for support in 'our joint fight alongside Michael', but said she would not be speaking further and asked for privacy.

The couple married in 1995 after meeting at a Ferrari party, and have two children together: Gina-Maria, 21, and Mick, 19, who races Formula Three.

Mick won the Formula Three championship with a race to spare in 2018, and will now make the move to Formula Two with Italian team, Prema this year.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
