One South Carolina police officer has been shot dead and four others injured near Florence.
The incident begun to unfold around 4.55pm Wednesday when a deputy was shot in the area of Hoffmeyer Road near the Vintage Place neighborhood in Florence County.
Then at 5.30pm authorities confirmed that a total of three deputies and two City Florence officers had been shot. By 6pm the shooter had been detained following talks with a negotiator. One of the city police officers has died. The suspect was rushed to the same hospital where the five officers he shot were taken after the incident.
The extent of the injuries of the other four was not immediately known.
The official account of Florence County Emergency Management tweeted: 'The active shooting situation is over and the suspect is in custody. We are asking everyone to stay away from Vintage Place as there is still an active crime investigation in progress.'

Dispatch obtained by DailyMail.com reveals that a call went out to all first responders asking that they report to the residence after an officer was shot.
There was also a warning that the shooter was behind the residence and still firing at that time, with the dispatcher urging those headed to the scene to ‘use precaution’.

According to Chief Deputy Glen Kirby, with the Florence County Sheriff's Office, the suspect surrendered to deputies after talking with a negotiator and has been taken to the hospital for treatment.

State Rep. Jay Jordan, R-Florence spoke at the South Carolina State House asking that everyone take a moment of silence for the injured police officers.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
