«Breaking News» Ex-fiancee of suspect in DC 'mansion murders' testifies at trial

The former fiancee of a man being tried for the brutal murders of a wealthy Washington DC family and their housekeeper testified that he had wads of cash on him when he came to visit her in New York just days after the killings.

Daron Wint, 37, previously pleaded not guilty to 20 felony charges, including murder, kidnapping, extortion and arson in the 2015 killings of business executive Savvas Savopoulos, his wife, Amy, their 10-year-old son, Philip, and their maid Veralica Figueroa.

Their bodies were discovered on May 14 of that year after a fire at their $4.5million mansion.

Wint's trial got under way in DC Superior Court three weeks ago.

On Tuesday, his former fiancée, Vanessa Hayles, told the jury from the witness stand that a few days after the family was tortured and murdered, Wint arrived in New York 'flush with cash,' which he claimed was a lottery prize, reported Fox 5 DC.

The couple went out to dinner, Wint bought his wife-to-be a new iPhone and shoes, and gave her money to put on her credit card.

On May 20, Hayles told the court she was laying in bed with Wint watching the news when his photo flashed on the screen in connection to the DC ‘mansion murders.’

The witness said she jumped out of bed and noticed that her fiance appeared shocked.

According to Hayles' testimony, Wint then called his father, but a detective got on the line and informed him there was a warrant out for his arrest in Maryland.

Hayles and Wint then left her home and checked into a hotel, where she said she spotted a red stain on his hooded sweatshirt.

When she asked him about the mark, she said Wint told her he had injured himself fleeing from police.

The following day, Hayles took Wint to a taxi stand so he could return to Maryland.

The ex-fiancee has been granted immunity by the prosecution in exchange for her testimony at the trial.

Also on Tuesday, the court heard from Wint's brother-in-law, Godfrey Ayling, who said that on May 15, he got a call from the defendant asking him for help in torching Wint's minivan.

Ayling refused, saying 'I don’t roll like that.'

The defense has argued that the killings of the Savopoulos family and their employee were carried out by Wint's brother Steffon and half-brother Darrell with the help of Savvas' personal assistant and driver, Jordan Wallace, and that he was lured to the mansion so that the blame would fall on him.

Prosecutors, however, have insisted that Wint carried out the killing alone. If convicted of the murders, he could face life in prison.

Wallace took the stand last month and recounted how he delivered a package containing $40,000 in $100 bills to his boss' mansion at Savopoulos' request.

He insisted that he had never met Wint or any of his relatives, and that he had nothing to do with the murders.

The witness broke down in tears on the stand while talking about his employer his young son, whom he described as intelligent, hardworking and ambitious.

The four victims were held captive inside the home for at least 18 hours while they arranged for the all-cash ransom to be handed over to their captor, authorities said.

After the money was paid, all four were killed.

According to court documents, the husband, wife and housekeeper were beaten with a baseball bat and stabbed.

Savopoulos' son was stabbed and burned. His two older daughters were away from home and was unharmed.

Wint, an unemployed welder who once worked for Savopoulos' company, American Iron Works, was linked to the crime scene by DNA, according to documents.

His DNA was found on the crust of a partially-eaten slice of pepperoni pizza in a pizza box in the home near where the three adults were found.

The pizza was one of two ordered by Amy Savopoulos the night of May 13 while the group was 'being held against their will,' the documents said.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
