«Breaking Pic News» Trump in taped call with Bob Woodward insists nobody told him about interview request

President Donald Trump complained on a recorded phone call no one ever contacted him about veteran journalist Bob Woodward's interview request – then complained advisor Kellyanne Conway should have come to him directly.

The Washington Post released a recorded August 14 phone call between the famously well-sourced author and the president soon after the paper reported on a copy of 'Fear,' Woodward's forthcoming book on Trump.

Trump does admit at one point during the call that a senator had passed along Woodward's request for an interview, but at other times says he had no idea about it.

The call begins with Woodward, after alerting the president he was recording, regretting the two hadn't been able to connect and Trump saying he wished he had known about the book – which was already coming out at the time of the call.

'I never got a call. I never got a message,' the president said at first. 'Who did you ask about speaking to me?'

'She didn't come to me. And she should have come to me,' Trump said of Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway, during a conversation with Bob Woodward about an interview request Trump claims he never was told about

Woodward told him he had lunch with counselor to the president Kellyanne Conway where he pressed her on getting a Trump interview – prompting Trump to admonish his former campaign manager while she was in the room.

At one point during the back-and-forth, Conway walked into the room where Trump was speaking, and he invited her to jump on the call.

'You and I spent a whole lunch on it, Kellyanne ... And you said you would get back to me. Nothing,' Woodward told her.

Conway then told Woodward: 'Yeah. So, I did. I presented it to the people here who make those decisions,' without naming names.

'Who are the people?' Woodward asked, but he got no response. At that point, without answering, Conway jumped off the call, and Trump got back on.

Trump then faulted Woodward for not calling him directly.

'But you never called for me. It would have been nice, Bob, if you called for me in my office,' Trump said.

'Kellyanne went to somebody, but she didn't come to me. And she should have come to me,' Trump said.

Woodward asked if Conway had 'access' to him.

'She does have access to me. Absolutely, she has direct access, but she didn't come to me. And you know what? That's okay. I'll just end up with another bad book, he said.

Trump both acknowledged knowing about Woodward's interview request and denied knowing about it during the interview.

'It’s really too bad, because nobody told me about it, and I would’ve loved to have spoken to you,' Trump told the veteran Watergate reporter.

Woodward also said he sent a request through press aide Raj Shah and that he also sent a message through Sen. Lindsey Graham.

He said he had put in requests with 'about six people,' and with 'about six or seven people.'

Woodward neither confirmed or denied having gone to former communications director Hope Hicks when Conway suggested it.

'But you had talked to Hope, right, who said no?'

'Listen, I talked to anyone I could,' Woodward said.

Trump allowed during the call that he did get a brief message from Graham from Woodward's request.

'Senator Graham actually mentioned it to me quickly on one meeting. And you know, that is true,' Trump said.

'Did you speak to Madeleine,' Trump asked Woodward. 'Madeleine is the key. She's the secret,' Trump said, in a reference to Madeleine Westerhout, his personal secretary.

Woodward says he didn't, and didn't betray knowledge of the channel of reaching by contacting his personal secretary directly.

'I broke my spear on it trying to get to you,' Woodward tells him later in the call, which Woodward told the president he was recording at the top.

'I talked to Raj. He was going to work it out,' Woodward said at one point, referencing press aide Raj Shah.

Trump ended up diminishing the access of his principal deputy press secretary. 'Rah, I hardly have - I don't speak to Raj,' Trump said.

'That's okay, I'll just end up with another bad book. What can I tell you,' Trump says in defeat.

He also concludes, without having seen the book, that it would be inaccurate.

'So we’re going to have a very inaccurate book, and that’s too bad. But I don’t blame you entirely,' he told Woodward.

At the beginning of the call, he told Woodward, who he said he had a conversation with in Trump Tower 20 years ago: 'You know I’m very open to you. I think you’ve always been fair. We’ll see what happens.'

Trump also trashed the book in an interview with the Daily Caller Tuesday.

'It's just another bad book. He's had a lot of credibility problems,' Trump said of Woodward, who along with Carl Bernstein and others helped unravel the Watergate scandal at the Washington Post.

'I probably would have preferred to speak to him, but maybe not. I think it probably wouldn't have made a difference in the book. He wanted to write the book a certain way,' Trump said.

Trump continued: 'It's just nasty stuff. I never spoke to him. Maybe I wasn't given messages that he called. I probably would have spoken to him if he'd called, if he'd gotten through. For some reason I didn't get messages on it.'

Trump said statements could have come from 'disgruntled employees,' and posited: 'It could be just made up by the author.' Woodward told Trump on the tape-recorded call he had hundreds of hours of tapes with his interview subjects.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
