Cholera has killed 14 people with almost 400 hospitalised in the past week in Nigeria's northeastern city of Maiduguri, the Borno state health commissioner said on Wednesday.

"As of today, 5th September... 380 cases of suspected cholera have been reported with 14 deaths," Haruna Mshelia said in a statement.

He said most of the suspected cases and deaths occurred in camps for displaced people in Maiduguri, while other victims were from neighbouring districts on the outskirts of the state capital.

The government and NGOs are now working to contain the outbreak which has spread to six other districts across the state, he said.

Mshelia said the World Health Organisation has recruited some 200 volunteers to conduct house-to-house searches in suspected cases "to ensure the transmission is interrupted on record time".

"More treatment centres will be required as... cases are increasing," he said.

Maiduguri has seen an upsurge in violence in recent months leading to more people being displaced, following nine years of Boko Haram attacks.

The jihadist uprising, which has left 20,000 people dead and displaced 2.6 million in the northeast, has forced many people to live in unsanitary camps where they lack sufficient food and clean water.

Water-borne diseases like cholera and malaria are a constant threat, especially during the rainy season when poor drainage causes stagnant pools to form.

At least 35 people were killed in September last year following a cholera outbreak in a sprawling camp for the displaced on the outskirts of Maiduguri which also left hundreds hospitalised.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
