«Breaking News» Tropical Storm Florence intensifies into hurricane expected to hit the East Coast this week

Tropical Storm Florence has intensified into a hurricane, threatening to slam the East Coast later this week.

The National Hurricane Center announced Sunday morning that Florence escalated into a hurricane with winds reaching 75mph as it swirls across the Atlantic.

Florence may make landfall anywhere from New England to the Carolinas as soon as Thursday as a Category 3 or higher hurricane.

Last week Florence was a Category 4 hurricane before it weakened to a tropical storm, then regained strength this weekend into a Category 1 hurricane. Forecasters predicted it would become a dangerous Category 4 storm before a possible landfall Friday.

The turbulent storm was last spotted 710 miles southeast of Bermuda moving west at 6mph.

Experts say the East Coast should prepare for a blow by the middle of the week as the hurricane rapidly intensifies.

'There is an increasing risk of two life-threatening impacts from Florence: storm surge at the coast and freshwater flooding from a prolonged heavy rainfall event inland,' the National Hurricane Center said at 11am.

The hurricane will pass through Bermuda before hitting the East Coast. Virginia, South and North Carolina have already declared states of emergencies

'However, given the uncertainty in track and intensity forecasts at those time ranges, it’s too soon to determine the exact timing, location and magnitude of those impacts,' the center added.

The hurricane is forecast to travel through Bermuda and the Bahamas on Tuesday and Wednesday. By Thursday it may hit mainland.

The storm will bring with it large swells and life-threatening rip currents.

As a result of the ominous storm, states across the East Coast are bracing for landfall with officials in the Carolinas and the Virginias making preparations.

South Carolina and Virginia declared states of emergencies to give residents time to make preparations for the severe weather.

The South Carolina Emergency Management Division tweeted Sunday that officials there are 'preparing for the possibility of a large-scale disaster'.

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper also declared a state of emergency on Friday saying: 'We are entering the peak of hurricane season and we know well the unpredictability and power of these storms.'

US Navy ships are also evacuating their ships in the Hampton Roads area to leave the port.

Carnival Cruise Line announced it changed its schedule of cruise ships on Sunday to accommodate the weather threats.

Carnival Pride was scheduled to leave Baltimore and head to Bermuda during a week-long cruise. Instead the ship will now head to The Bahamas.

The company also said that Carnival Horizon has cancelled plans to visit San Juan in Puerto Rico on Sunday. It is expected to arrive in New York on Sept. 13.

Two more storms named Helene and Isaac are following behind Florence, according to Fox, but are expected to be less threatening.

Isaac is forecast to become a hurricane by Sunday evening or Monday.  Helene is still a Tropical Storm.

Florence may make landfall ...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
