«Breaking News» Serena Williams praises Meghan Markle as she releases cookbook

Serena Williams supported Meghan Markle in a kind Instagram post as the duchess unveiled her new cookbook, her first solo project as a royal.

The athlete, 36, shared a photo of the book, titled Together: Our Community Cookbook on Monday morning, along with a message praising Meghan, 37, for the initiative.

Meghan wrote the foreword for the book, appears on its cover, and cooked with members of a community kitchen supporting victims of the Grenfell Tower fire ahead of its release. The fire, which occurred in June 2017 in West London, left 72 dead.

'I used to call you Meghan (and I still do) but dear Duchess of Sussex your first project Together a cookbook bringing women of all cultures together. I could not be more excited about it and proud of you,' Serena wrote to Meghan.

'It's beautiful — diversity, inclusivity, coming together in grief or joy — there is just so much love.'

Serena also changed her Instagram biography to include a link to a video posted on YouTube by the royal family's account. The clip, narrated by Meghan, tells the story of the Hubb Community Kitchen, which started after the Grenfell fire as a way for those affected to connect, cook together, and share recipes.

Meghan and Serena, who became close years before Meghan tied the knot with Prince Harry, are longtime friends.

Serena was among the A-listers who attended the royal wedding in May, and in July this year, the athlete paid tribute to the duchess as she competed in Wimbledon.

'We always had a wonderful friendship,' Serena said of Meghan at the time. 'Every year for a couple years she comes out to Wimbledon, has supported me... Now she's supporting me in a different role but our friendship is still exactly the same. We always have supported each other, just been there for each other through a lot.'

Meghan explained in the video shared by Serena that she met the women involved in the community kitchen in January 2018, as she settled to her own new life in London.

According to one of the women, Meghan came up with the idea for a cookbook after asking why the community kitchen only functioned twice a week, instead of seven days a week — and being told there was a lack of funding.

The duchess has made other secret trips to the center to meet volunteers and learn more about their work.

'I immediately felt connected to this community kitchen,' Meghan said in the video. 'Like these women I'm passionate about food and cooking as a way of strengthening communities.'

An investigation into the fire in June last year is still ongoing, and has prompted revelations that a 'miscommunication' between senior fire officers meant attempts to rescue residents on the highest floors stopped for an hour.

The inquiry has previously been brought to a halt as firefighters burst into tears when recalling the blaze.

Work to finish covering the tower in white sheeting with green hearts was completed in June this year, and it still stands as a memorial to those who died. However, a commission has been announced to enable the Grenfell community to decide the long-term future of the site.

The Hubb Community Project was created last summer by women seeking somewhere to cook fresh food for their families and friends following the blaze, which engulfed the 24-story social housing block.

Meghan's foreward to community cookbook

'I immediately felt connected to this community kitchen; it is a place for women to laugh, grieve, cry and cook together.

'Melding cultural identities under a shared roof, it creates a space to feel a sense of normalcy — in its simplest form, the universal need to connect, nurture, and commune through food, through crisis or joy — something we can all relate to...

'Through this charitable endeavour, the proceeds will allow the kitchen to thrive and keep the global spirit of community alive.'

Following the blaze — Britain's deadliest fire on domestic premises since the Second World War — the group of friends approached the Al-Manaar centre to ask if they could use the kitchen.

In the new book supported by Meghan, some of the recipes are family favorites and all have been created by the cooks who support not only residents affected by the Grenfell fire but others in the community.

The women of the Hubb Community Kitchen wrote in the introduction: 'Our kitchen has always been a place of good food, love, support and friendship.

'We cook the recipes we've grown up with; there's no stress, and the recipes always work because they have been made so many times — it's proper comfort food… Swapping family recipes and moments of laughter gave us a sense of normality and home.

'We named ourselves the Hubb Community Kitchen to celebrate the thing that we all feel every time we meet – "hubb" means "love" in Arabic.'

The Royal Foundation is administering the transfer of funds from the sale of the book to the Hubb Community Kitchen and related projects.

Meghan is part of The Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and she made her first appearance with the organisation in April.

The foundation was launched in 2011 by Prince William and his younger brother Harry – and Meghan officially became its fourth patron after her wedding on May 19.

It had an income of $11.8 million last year, and spent $12.7 million — including $10.9 million on charitable activities, of which $5.6 million was made up of grant funding.

Last week it was revealed that more than 1,200 people traumatized by the Grenfell fire received mental health treatment in the year after the blaze, according to figures from Central and North West London NHS Trust.

Another 126 patients with long-term mental health problems had their conditions worsened by the blaze in North Kensington on June 14 last year, which claimed the lives of 72 people.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
