«Breaking News» Ringo Starr and Yoko Ono stage Beatles-themed 'Bed-In' in New York City

New Yorkers walking past City Hall in Manhattan this morning were treated to an unusual sight: former Beatles drummer and newly-minted knight Ringo Starr laying in an oversize bed with John Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono, and 'the Dude' from The Big Lebowski.

The stunt was part of a Beatles-themed 'bed-in,' inspired by Ono and Lennon's famed Vietnam War protests in 1969, to support New York City public schools.

Lennon's former bandmate Starr, whose real name is Richard Starkey, and Ono were joined on the steps of City Hall by actor Jeff Bridges, Mayor Bill de Blasio and City Council Speaker Corey Johnson.

The 'bed-in' was part of the fifth annual 'Come Together: NYC' event, which marked the return of the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus: a mobile production studio that 'provides hands-on creative experiences to students of all ages,' including, audio, video, digital media and broadcast

This year’s theme of 'Come Together: NYC' was 'activism.' Students from various schools gathered outside City Hall carrying signs saying 'Bed Peace,' 'Hair Peace' and 'Imagine Peace,' and sang 'Give Peace A Chance.'

The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus rolled out in 1998 with the intention of continuing Lennon's legacy of promoting unity through art.

The legendary singer and songwriter was assassinated in Manhattan in 1980.

During Thursday's event, Ono, 85, Starr, 78, and Bridges, the star of The Big Lebowski, climbed onto a large white bed, surrounded by a cheering crowd of children and dignitaries.

'It's an incredible day for me to finally go to bed with Yoko,' joked Starr.

Ono, laying beside her late husband's bandmate, smiled and said: 'I think that maybe John is hearing us. Give peace a chance... just remember that we are creating the world.'

Ono and Starr have been friends for many years. When the renowned musician was awarded a knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II for his 'services to music' earlier this year, Lennon's widow sent out a warm tweet congratulating him and professing her love for him

After hearing from the famous trio, a band performed Lennon's 'Imagine,' during which Mayor de Blasio flashed the peace sign while holding Ono's hand.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
