Pep Guardiola has urged Manchester City to tie Raheem Sterling down to a new long-term contract.
The England winger's £175,000-a-week deal runs down at the end of next season and City are keen to quickly sort out his future.
Guardiola believes Sterling – who is fit to face Fulham - will remain a key figure at the Etihad Stadium as they plan to build on last year's record-breaking campaign.

'It's well-known we're delighted with him and would like to continue,' Guardiola said. 'My club knows my opinion and we share that. After that it is the club and the agent.'
The City boss is not worried about negotiations becoming protracted and told his representatives that the 23-year-old is valued among the club's hierarchy.
'Sometimes this kind of thing needs time,' he added.
'It's important that Raheem and his people know how delighted we are with him.'
Sterling has been a mainstay in City's side since joining and is viewed as one of the best assets
Guardiola has reiterated that Kevin De Bruyne does not have a buy-out clause in his contract
Guardiola – who reiterated that Kevin De Bruyne does not have a release clause in his contract – also issued a withering response to Merseyside Police's failure to arrest any fans following the attack on City's bus at Anfield.
'I'm not the police,' he said before adding sarcastically: 'The cameras were not good there.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
