Claire Foy fought back tears as she won her first ever Emmy Award just months after a gender pay scandal centered around her role on The Crown.
The 34-year-old Stockport-native got emotional as she accepted the Lead Actress in a Drama Series trophy at the 70th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards held at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles on Monday night.
Foy - who played Queen Elizabeth on the show - was involved in a gender pay controversy earlier this year when it was revealed that her co-star Matt Smith had been paid more for the show over the first two seasons.
She earned it! Claire Foy got emotional as she she accepted the Best Actress in A Drama trophy at the 70th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards held at the Microsoft Theater in Downtown Los Angeles on Monday night
She ended her speech by addressing how the show is moving on without her and Smith while also giving him a special dedication.
Foy said: 'So I dedicate this to the next cast, the next generation. And I also dedicate this to Matt Smith.'
Olivia Colman has taken over the role of Queen Elizabeth for the third series of the The Crown, which will be released next year, with Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip, and Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret.
Foy beat out stiff competition on Monday night, including Tatiana Maslany (Orphan BLack), Keri Russell (The Americans), Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid's Tale), Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld), and Sandra Oh (Killing Eve) who was the first ever Asian actress nominated in the category.
Choking back tears throughout her speech, the English beauty began by saying: 'I was given a role that I never thought I'd get a chance to play.'
It was her first nomination and first Emmy win. Claire's surprise was clear as she started her speech saying: 'This wasn't supposed to happen.'

Steal the show like Claire wearing Calvin Klein By Appointment
All the glitz and glamour arrived in Los Angeles last night for the Primetime Emmys and Claire Foy was an outstanding winner of the evening after picking up her first award.
But she also needs one for her stunning dress because she certainly stole the show. The actress graced the event in a custom dress by Calvin Klein By Appointment, as styled by Nicky Yates, and wore jewels by Fred Leighton and a bag by Tyler Ellis. The tailored dress is designed with a strapless bodice, but all the drama is in the back with an oversized bow making it a statement piece.
Although this made-to-measure dress is purely for acting royalty, you can shop the brands latest collection at Farfetch (click right).
But if you’ve got an event coming up and want to wow the crowd like Claire then do so in one of our dresses from the edit. We’re obsessing over this Arianna Papell number, but you could splash-the-cash on Alexis Mabille.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
