Viewers tuning into the much-anticipated second episode of ITV conspiracy drama Strangers on Monday night were left baffled by 'confusing' plotlines.
Following on from last week's 'cracking' cliffhanger, fans took to social media to say they couldn't keep up with the thrilling storyline's twists and turns.
In the second of the Hong Kong-based eight-parter, from the brothers behind hit BBC series The Missing, professor Jonah Mulray, played by John Simm, believed his wife Megan Harris had been murdered.
But when he took a voicemail that recorded her last moments - including what sounded like a gunshot - to the police, they doctor the evidence.
As well as Megan's body going missing from the morgue and meeting his wife's secret daughter Lau, Jonah also discovers what appear to be his wife's plans to run away to America leaving both him and her first husband David behind.
However, viewers were unsure of the new developments. Fans took to Twitter, with one writing: 'Strangers on ITV plot has more holes than a Swiss cheese. But I still like it.'
Jonah was in for a surprise in the second episode of ITV's Strangers when he met Megan's secret daughter Lau and the pair teamed up to try and piece together her mother's apparent murder in Hong Kong
After Jonah discovered his wife Megan Harris' last voicemail message to him had been doctored he was then told her body had gone missing from the morgue, leading to an angry confrontation with the police
Viewers of the ITV conspiracy drama were confused by the new developments in the second episode with some trying to piece together the storyline whereas others
While the reaction continued to be mixed with some praising the show for its intrigue, others were just simply confused: 'Anyone else have a clue what's going on? #strangers ITV.'
'I really wanted to like #Strangers on ITV but I just can’t get into it. Despite loving John Simm’s work this isn’t great TV,' complained another.
The first episode saw Professor Mulray arrive in Hong Kong to identify his wife's body after he was told she had been killed in a car crash, only to discover Megan had been living a double life in the city with a husband of 20 years and their daughter Lau Chen, played by Harry Potter actress Katie Cheung.
Already reeling from the twists and turns of the storyline, viewers were dealt another blow in the final moments of the episode when Professor Mulray listened to a voicemail his wife had left him at the time of her death.
The opening scenes in the second episode showed Jonah sharing what he'd found with the police - but he failed to make a copy of the message Megan had left and when his phone was returned, the voicemail had been altered.
Jonah and Lau discovered a separate apartment Megan had been hiding in in Hong Kong in ITV's Strangers, and during a search he found a set of passports she had kept in a washing machine
The ITV drama had a mixed review from fans with some saying they weren't sure if they would continue watching while others praised it for being a 'terrific drama'
The passports were for the professor's wife Megan Harris and her daughter Lau and were American - leading some viewers to suggest she was an international spy
Viewers were unsure of who to trust in ITV's Strangers, with police detective Daniel Tsui already proving he wasn't to be trusted when he returned Jonah's mobile back to him with a doctored message
The international thriller took another turn when Megan's first husband David was accused of knowing about his wife's murder by a mysterious acquaintance.
It's still unknown what his role is in her death, and Jonah attempts to piece together what really happened.
He was led to an address with the help of Megan's daughter Lau and they discover her secret apartment.
Angry that her mother was keeping things from her she storms out calling her a 'selfish b****'.
It ends on another open-ended moment as Jonah discovers a set of America passports with Megan and Lau's names printed on them - and no explanation.
Strangers returns next Monday on ITV at 9pm

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
