«Breaking News» Brigitte Neilson calls criticism she faced for having a fifth child at 54 a ‘double standard’

Brigitte Nielsen has claimed she was judged more harshly than a man would be for having children later in life, after giving birth to her fifth child at the age of 54.

The Danish actress, now 55, gave birth to Frieda, her daughter with her 39-year-old husband Mattia Dessi, earlier this year.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain on Monday, Brigitte said men are 'always safe' from criticism, and are allowed to remarry and have children when they're older without judgement, but that 'everyone was out to get her' when she did it.

She also revealed that she felt more prepared to have a child later in life, because of the lessons she'd learned raising her four - now grown-up - sons.

Brigitte, who was previously married to Sylvester Stallone, welcomed Frieda after undergoing IVF using eggs that she'd had frozen when she was 40.

Her decision sparked a debate about older mothers, which she responded to on GMB on Monday.

She said: 'There's definitely a double standard because it seems like men are in their 60s, 70s, 80s and even 90s, they have children and no one raises an eyebrow.

'I am maybe the oldest mother in America and people say maybe you won't be alive in 20 years, is that the right responsibility to have for the little girl.'

Brigitte said she felt men were able to behave differently to women in all of their life choices, not just having children later.

She continued: 'Men are always safe, no matter what they do they are always safe; they can have kids, they can change wives I don't know how many times.

'If you're Brigitte Nielsen you've been married a couple of times, you have a couple of kids, you make some mistakes everybody's out to get you. If you're a man it's like nothing ever happened.'

HOW DOES IVF WORK?

The menstrual cycle is first suppressed with medication before other drugs are used to encourage the ovaries to produce more eggs than usual.

An ultrasound scan is carried out to check the development of the eggs, and medication is used to help them mature.

The eggs are then collected by a needle inserted into the ovaries, via the vagina, before the eggs are fertilised with sperm.

Finally the fertilised embryo is transferred into the womb to grow and develop.

A single IVF cycle has an average success rate of 32.3 per cent for those under 35, dropping to five per cent for women aged 43 and 44 and only 1.9 per cent for those 45 and older.

Despite IVF being most effective for the under 35s, 57 per cent of IVF cycles are undergone by women 35 or older.

Brigitte and her first ex-husband, Danish composer Kasper Winding, share a 34-year-old son called Julian, who has himself become an electronic musician.

The mother-of-five - who told Melbourne's Herald Sun that Arnold Schwarzenegger philandered on Maria Shriver with her - has a son called Killian, 28, by Mark.

Brigitte also has two sons - Douglas, 25, and Raoul Jr, 23 - by her fourth husband Raoul Meyer, who was married to her from 1993 until 2005.

The Celebrity Rehab alumna met her now 39-year-old latest husband at a Swiss hotel where he was working as a waiter, marrying him in 2006 in Malta.

Speaking on GMB, Brigitte said being older and already a mother-of-four made her more prepared to welcome a child.

She explained: 'I also felt much more prepared because I have four grown up sons 23, 25, 29 and 34 so I kind of knew what was coming for me and it's fantastic.

'I am tired but I call it the happy tired, it gives you that inner energy that is so fantastic and I am super proud.

She then advised women to freeze their eggs as she did so they have the chance to have children one day.

Brigitte said: 'I'd love to tell all the women out there that are in their 30s preserve your eggs just in case you wake up one day when you're forty and think ''Oh my god, I didn't have a kid.''

'There is a chance and where there's a will there's a way and stay positive and just go for it.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
