Amy Winehouse's father Mitch has branded Paul McCartney's claims that he could have saved the tragic star from death 'ridiculous'.
Appearing on ITV's Loose Women on Friday, on what would have been the singer's 35th birthday, Mitch, 68, admitted he was taken aback when he learned the former Beatles star told GQ magazine of his regrets in not helping her battle her addictions.
Calling the statement 'ridiculous', he said of the star: 'What would he have done? It's up to the person in recovery and they have to want to get help. It's all about the person who is dealing with her addiction.

'A lot of people like him think they can fix things. Why could he fix that? Of the hundreds of thousands of people dealing with addiction, all we need is Paul McCartney?'
However, Mitch still deemed the legendary musician 'a very nice man' as he spoke with panellists on the lunchtime show, and insisted that Amy's family had lovingly supported her throughout her troubles.
'She had all the support,' said Mitch. 'She had a loving family. If my nan came down from hell in a fiery chariot, Amy would say, "OK, maybe next week."

'We've gone through the hurt and the pain and it's still painful and our way to deal with it is to help young people.'
During his interview with GQ, Let It Be hitmaker Paul spoke of his regret when meeting Valerie singer Amy Winehouse in 2008, three years before her tragic death from alcohol poisoning.
He said: 'I knew she had a problem, and I ended up just saying hi, she said hi, but afterwards I thought I really should have just run after her — "Hey, Amy, listen, you're really good, I really hope you…" — and say something that broke through the despair.
'And she'd remember and think, "Oh yeah, I'm good, I've got a life to lead." But you always have those little regrets.'
During his interview, Mitch also claimed that his late daughter's ghost regularly visits him, describing the experience as a 'wonderful feeling'.

Telling the show's panellists that Amy was with him 'all the time' and that her visits came in the form of an 'electric impulse, he said: 'She's not gone, she's with me all the time. Lovely spiritual stuff. She comes to me a lot and my mum and dad do.
'It's not an electrical shock because it's not shocking... It's the most wonderful feeling of knowing that somebody is there. I say to Amy, "Don't wake me up in the middle of the night, please."
'It's a bit frightening because it's like an electric impulse in my body.'
He added of his interactions with the star in the afterlife: 'I don't differentiate Amy as an adult and Amy as a child.'
Mitch, who revealed plans to mark Amy's birthday with an intimate family dinner, also insisted that his daughter was clear of drugs for three years when she died.

He said: 'What people don't realise about Amy is she was clear of drugs for three years. A lot of people think she died of a drugs overdose, right? Well she didn't, she was clear of drugs for three years.
Some people say, "Well what's the difference?" She died of alcohol poisoning.'
He also said that Amy was working towards sobriety and that it was only the last two days of her life that she abused booze heavily.
Swing singer Mitch explained: "The last year-and-a-half of her life there were large periods where she didn't drink. The last six weeks of her life, five weeks and five nights she didn't drink.
'And the last two days, she drank an awful lot and that is what caused the alcohol poisoning. She was dealing with her addictions, she was actively working with her addictions. She was moving towards sobriety.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
