«Breaking News» Terrified company boss, 55, relives the terrifying moment he thought he was going to die

A businessman has revealed his terror after he was battered in the head with a hammer by thugs who broke into his home.

Tony Raffermati, 55, was beaten unconscious by one of the four intruders who repeatedly demanded money from him in his house in Ash Green, Surrey.

Mr Raffermati, the chairman of Bridges estate agents, had been home alone when the gang used a ladder to quietly climb in through an upstairs window.

Nursing serious head wounds, Mr Raffermati today explained how he was certain he would die when the masked gang 'viciously' attacked him on Wednesday evening.

He said: 'I was using my computer in the lounge with the Liverpool V Bayern football match playing on the TV. Suddenly, at around 8.30pm four masked men appeared from my hallway.

'It appears that they entered through an upstairs window. The two larger assailants, one white and one black, grabbed me before I could understand what was happening and the black guy struck me on the head with, what I was to learn during the rest of my 25-30 minute ordeal, was a claw hammer.

'They were screaming "where is the safe, where is the safe". I do not have a safe. I am the chairman of Bridges Estate Agents and my business is not a cash-based enterprise.

'I said I have no safe and the second blow from the hammer came across my temple and near my eye.

'This blow sent me to the floor and I could sense a huge amount of blood. There is certainly a blank period that followed. It was only when I got to hospital that I felt pain in my ribs and discovered more hammer marks.

'The two smaller assailants had quickly set about ransacking the upstairs and obviously hadn't found anything. The black guy returned and although I was still dazed, it was around then that I received another blow to the back of my neck.

'I was dragged upstairs while all four continued to search for the non-existent safe. When I was brought back to the lounge I was made to sit on the floor. The black guy again held the hammer over my head and shouted "where's the safe, where's the jewellery."

'I was terrified as he then started counting "one, two, three," as a countdown to striking me again. I was sure that one more hammer blow to my head would be the last for me.

'I protested that I have no safe and showed them that I was wearing no jewellery, I don't even wear a watch. The black guy ordered the others to hold out my hands obviously to try start on my fingers with the hammer.

'Luckily for me the larger white male decided I was telling the truth and they started to tie me up. It took me around five minutes to get myself free and I immediately phoned for an ambulance. My lounge was covered in blood and I knew I needed medical attention as soon as possible.

'They had made off with my credit cards and I obviously had surrendered the PIN numbers. It transpires my card was used at the Londis store in Great Hollands Square in Bracknell at 9.43pm and this may represent another very good chance of a sighting. Clearly they had a car to make this 30-minute journey.'

Mr Raffermati said he hoped people with information would come forward, saying he had 'no doubt this wasn't the first time they have operated and I fear it will not be the last'.

He said that the gang took the keys to his cars but did not take the vehicles. They escaped with thousands of pounds worth of cash and his credit cards.

Detectives from Surrey Police are investigating the attack and appealed for anyone with information about the armed robbery to contact them.

A spokesperson said: 'We are appealing for witnesses following an aggravated burglary in Ash Green. Four men broke into a property in White Lane around 8.45pm. The victim, a man in his 50s, was assaulted with a hammer, by the suspects who repeatedly demanded jewellery and money from him.

'The suspects then made off with a large quantity of cash, keys, bank cards and an air pistol. The victim has suffered serious injuries, which are not thought to be life-changing.

'All four men were wearing gloves, scarves over their faces and one was carrying a hammer. If you were in the area at the time and saw anything, or you have dashcam footage, please call 101 immediately,' said the spokesman.

Mr Raffermati, who is very well know in Surrey and Hampshire for his charity support as well as his estate agency business, revealed that by good fortune his partner Hayley had travelled to Wales the day before the attack to visit her parents so was spared the ordeal of the attack.

'I consider myself a very lucky man, my partner went home on Tuesday to visit her parents, so she wasn't here, which was just luck on my part,' he said.

Mr Raffermati, the cha...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
