«Breaking News» Rise in serious crime in New York, with the murders and rapes soaring in first two months of 2019

Murders and rapes in New York are soaring, but overall crime is down, according to official police data.

Since the turn of the year there have been 51 murders in New York City - a rise of around 55 per cent, NYPD figures reveal.

Reported murders and rapes across the five boroughs rose in the first two months of 2019, up to March 2.

According to police data, 34 murders were recorded during the same period of last year.

There were 267 rape cases reported up to March 2, which represents a 23.6 per cent increase compared to last year.

Shockingly there were 31 rapes reported in just a seven-day period from February 18 to 24.

But despite the surge in rapes and murders, overall crime citywide is down eight per cent, the NYPD’s weekly CompStat report states.

The surge in murders has largely been attributed to an increase in violent crime in Northern Brooklyn, which jumped from four to 15.

The number of people shot that did not get killed in the same district also increased, with 25 people gunned down compared to 14 last year - which represents a 69 per cent jump.

Citywide 100 people were shot in January and February, whereas 102 were injured in shootings during the same period of 2018.

Shooting incidents without injury were around the same as well with and increase from 87 to 89 across the five boroughs.

Despite the rise in violent crime, five crimes including felony assault, grand larceny, and grand larceny auto all decreased in 2019.

One of the other crimes to fall so far this year is robbery, which dropped from 1,953 at the start of last year to 1,694 in 2019.

Burglary also dropped from 1,753 in 2018 to 1,528 for the first two months of this year.

New York mayor, Bill de Blasio, and the NYPD have often boasted about the continued drop in crime across the city.

An NYPD spokesperson told Fox News they will continue to tackle crime of all types and that 'any murder is one too many'.

The statement said: 'The NYPD takes every crime seriously, and any murder is one too many.

'The NYPD will use these proven tactics to address any temporary upticks, so that every New Yorker - regardless of zip code - can live in safety.'

Police Commissioner James O’Neill said last month that the department plans to focus more on six precincts where the violent crime rate is more than twice that of the rest of the city, the New York Daily News reports.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
