«Breaking News» Putin meets female police officers on horseback for International Women’s Day - keeps his top on

Vladimir Putin today joined a group of female mounted police officers for a display in horsemanship to mark the upcoming International Women's Day - but unlike his now-famous calendar shoot, he opted to keep his top on.

The President was spotted on a gorgeous chestnut steed surrounded by women in uniform atop white horses at the training facility in Moscow on Thursday.

Putin was famously photographed riding topless through Siberia on holiday in 2009 - snaps which have since been turned into calendars for supporters idolizing the strongman leader.

Today however, possibly due to the freezing Moscow temperatures, Putin layered up in a grey zip-up jumper and a fur-lined jacket.

Although he appeared at ease his horsemanship went awry when his mount -Wonderwaltz - suddenly started riding him backwards. Putin had an expression of helpless surprise.

As he prepared to take the salute, a policewoman walked out to rescue the Russian president, grabbing the horse's reigns before guiding it back into line.

Undeterred, the Kremlin head of state had some risqué advice for the female police officers ahead of 8 March - International Women's Day.

He told them: 'We have a joke. What does a girl need to keep herself fit?

'A training apparatus, a massager and an admirer' (the words in Russian rhyme - trenzher, massazher and ukhazher.

'But you have such cool guys here, that they can easily perform all these three functions. At least the last two.'

Putin has carefully cultivated a macho image during his 19 years in power with photo-ops depicting him riding a horse bare-chested in Siberia, taking a dip in icy water and piloting a firefighting plane.

Footage showed Putin leading the column in a gentle canter around the circuit before the group dismounted to speak with the President.

The 66-year-old, whose ratings have slipped in recent months, was shown on state television in jeans and a jacket with a raised collar, riding a brown horse flanked by female police officers on white horses.

They performed a number of formations and various types of canters as they trotted around the sand circuit.

Putin afterwards gave the police officers a horse named Golden Ray, Russian news agencies reported.

Ahead of International Women's Day on Friday, Putin said women were increasingly taking an interest in working in law enforcement agencies and that just over a quarter of employees at the Interior Ministry were now women.

Pollsters say Putin's ratings have dipped recently due to years of falling real incomes and an unpopular move by the government last year to raise the retirement age.

However, he remains broadly popular and a state pollster this month put his approval rating at almost 65 per cent.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
