Project Runway has unveiled its first ever transgender model to feature on the show in an exclusive clip that was released ahead of the newest series of hit TV program.
Mimi Tao, from Thailand, was having her dress fitted by her designer when she revealed that she is the first transgender model to ever feature on the show.
Speaking to her designer, she said: 'I have been working so hard to get here, especially for the transgender people. They need to work harder than other people.'
Amazing! An exclusive clip has revealed that Project Runway will feature its first ever transgender model, Mimi Tao (pictured) on its new season, which airs on Thursday, March 14
Special: The clip shows Mimi talking to her designer as he fits a dress to her, when she tells him that she is transgender, and also the first ever transgender model to appear on the show
Emotional: As the pair share a heartfelt conversation, Mimi says that she has been 'working so hard' to get where she is, and that she wants to 'change the industry'
Proud: The designer reveals that he is 'honored' to work with Mimi, and calls her a 'real goddess' as he fits his creation to the stunning model
She continued, saying: 'I'm so glad I'm here. I'm the first transgender model in Project Runway.'
As the designer was fitting her dress, he stopped what he was doing and placed his hands on his face in shock and delight, saying that he was 'honored' to be working with Mimi.
Fierce! Originally from Thailand, Mimi was born a man, and transitioned into a woman around the age of 16
He said: 'I'm so honored. Thank you. thank you.
'Oh my god. Oh my god, you're a real goddess!' he added, as the two shared a sweet hug.
'There's actually a goddess wearing my garment right now. Oh my god,' he said.
Throughout their chat, Mimi revealed that she wants to 'change the industry' and she hopes to encourage all transgender models to believe in their dreams.
She said: 'I want to change the industry. I want to inspire all the transgender young generation who have a dream.
Later in the video she added: 'Keep knocking the door. If they don’t open, the door is going to break one day.'
The model spent six years as a male monk before transitioning into a woman around the age of 16, according to an interview she did with Richard Magazine back in September 2017.
Mimi described her journey to becoming a model, saying that it was 'very unique'.
She told the publcation: 'It wasn’t easy. I used to be a boy monk. When I was really young, I grew up in a poor family and they always send the son to become a monk, to study, because they have no money to support them.
Wow! The model (pictured walking for Marisol Deluna) lived as a male monk before transitioning, and she said it was during her time at a temple that she 'found' her true self
Memories: Mimi (pictured as a monk before her transition) said she 'found' herself at the temple, because 'one of Buddha’s teachings is, you need to accept yourself'
Careet: Pictured walking for Marco Marco, the model began her career when she walked for the designer during New York fashion week back in 2017
'But when I decided to become a monk, no one commanded me to. Ultimately, I decided myself. And I love that,' she added.
Mimi discovered that she was truly a woman when she was spending time at a temple.
She said: 'The temple is a very peaceful place. And, I found myself in the temple. Because one of Buddha’s teachings is, you need to accept yourself.
'If you can’t accept yourself, who is anyone going to accept you, right?
'So, when I was in the temple I had a lot of time to be with myself. I had a lot of time to think what I want to be, where I want to go. And, it just began to come out,' she explained.
Her career took off when she walked for Marco Marco during New York fashion week in 2017.
The model has since worked with a number of brands and designers, including Elie Madi, Marisol Deluna, Adrian Alicea and Michael Costello.
Introducing a transgender model isn't the only way the latest series will differ from past series.
Season 17 features a brand new host; 26-year-old supermodel Karlie Kloss.
Determined: Speaking during the video clip, Mimi said she wants to 'change the industry'
Passionate: The model said she wanted any transgender people who are aspiring models to not be afraid to pursue their dreams
The new season will also see new mentor Christian Siriano as well as two new judges - journalist Elaine Welteroth and fashion designer Brandon Maxwell.
The new judges will join Nina Garcia, who has been a judge since the show first aired back in 2004.
Speaking ahead of the latest season, 53-year-old Nina said: 'The most surprising part about this season was the fact that we had so much access to the designers, whereas seasons past we really didn’t have much access to them.
'We didn’t get to hear their background stories, our time with them was very limited.
'This time around we had so much more time to get to know them to know their backgrounds to know their story, to really understand where they’re coming from and where their creative process starts,' she added.
The new season of Project Runway airs tonight at 8pm on Bravo.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
