TV property guru Kevin McCloud is facing complaints from angry homeowners over shoddy workmanship, delays and broken promises at a new estate of eco-homes being created by his building firm.

The Grand Designs presenter, 59, is building 50 homes in the village of Kings Worthy, Hampshire, through his company Happiness, Architecture, Beauty Housing (HAB).

He promised potential buyers that the complex near Winchester would be an idyllic mix of modern houses set among fruit orchards and flower meadows.

And he wooed them with plans to include an athletics track, electric cars for villagers to use, a play area, allotments, and a network of paths.

The project was supposed to be completed by 2017 but residents complained last week that homes are still not finished, while a ‘pile of mud and rubble’ sits where the track, allotments and orchards are supposed to be.

The development, called Lovedon Fields, is one of several complexes built across the country by HAB, which was founded by Mr McCloud in 2007.

The site offers homes ranging from two to five bedrooms, with rooftop terraces and smartphone-controlled heating and lighting to save energy and reduce bills.

But work came to a halt last October, leaving much of the surrounding area an eyesore.

One resident in her 30s expected to move into her £900,000 five-bedroom house in the summer of 2017 but was forced to delay it until November last year.

The woman, who did not want to be named, said: ‘I’ve just had my garage doors put on today.

‘The back stairs are still missing, metal cladding that’s supposed to be on the front of the house isn’t there, and the grass at the front was supposed to be landscaped with trees and flowers.’ She added: ‘To Kevin McCloud I would say, “I just want my house finished.”’

Another resident, 32, who lives in a £320,000 two-bedroom house, said some properties had unfinished balconies and workmen had warned residents not to step on them as they cannot support human weight.

He said: ‘We do love the house, but it is a bit disappointing.

‘We all bought into the Kevin McCloud dream, but it wasn’t all it was cracked up to be.’

Residents have formed a group to consider taking legal action against HAB. It is due to meet the firm this week.

In a statement, Mr McCloud said: ‘I’m personally very sorry for the delays and the problems caused. Things haven’t been done quickly enough.

‘I share our residents’ frustrations and I am putting a plan in place to fix them.

‘We’ve been hit hard by rocketing costs and a construction skills crisis – both of which are being exacerbated by Brexit uncertainty and the fall in the pound.

‘Of course, this is no excuse for the poor service residents have received.’

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
