The first episode of new ITV drama The Bay has left viewers feeling like they've seen it all before - namely in hit detective series Broadchurch.
Those watching the new six-part drama, which aired at 9pm last night and saw police investigating the mysterious disappearance of teenage twins Holly and Dylan Meredith, even dubbed the show 'Broadchurch lite'.
The similarities prompting the comparisons on social media? A stressed-out police officer with a difficult private life, missing children, illicit encounters and a coastal location in Lancashire seaside resort Morecambe.

DS Lisa Armstrong (Morven Christie) is a family liaison officer fighting crime in the coastal seaside town of Morecambe in new ITV drama The Bay

'It's Broadchurch but northern!' Viewers tuning into the first episode of The Bay said the show drew more than a few parallels with the hit ITV drama starring Olivia Colman and David Tennant

Like Broadchurch, tangled love lives are immediately at the fore.
An explosive start to The Bay saw family liaison officer Lisa Armstrong (Morven Christie) having a one-night stand outside a pub with mystery man Sean (Jonas Armstrong) only to meet him again the next day when he turns out to be the missing twins' father.
Hungover and mortified after reuniting the next morning in a very different setting, DS Armstrong promptly wipes the CCTV footage of her encounter after accessing the pub's cameras.
The risk multiplies when Meredith can't account for his actions and is promptly arrested.
For some viewers, the clandestine sex and subsequent cover-up reminded them of when Mark Latimer, father of murdered Danny, had sex with hotel owner Becca Fisher in Broadchurch.
@Vintagehues69 penned: '#TheBay worth watching to see how it evolves but missing children, moody cop, new cop, body on the beach, cheating father arrested because of missing hours in movements...sound familiar?? #broadchurch.'

Shock: DS Lisa Armstrong, in a hungover state, is the family liaison officer for Sean and Jess Meredith after their 15-year-old twins Holly and Dylan go missing...she quickly recognises Sean as the stranger she had sex with the night before

Many on social media compared the opening episode to Broadchurch, which also featured a similar plotline when Mark Latimer, father of murdered Danny, had sex with hotel owner Becca Fisher on the night his son died

Tangled: Armstrong then deletes CCTV footage of her pub encounter with Sean as she becomes more involved in their case

Dangerous behaviour: The first episode saw Sean Meredith arrested after his alibi was wiped...by the detective investigating the case

The opening episode saw a reluctant DS Armstrong - who clearly has her demons - heading to interview the parents of missing children Holly and Dylan Meredith

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
