«Breaking News» Inside the prison cell where the accused Christchurch gunman 'is being held in solitary confinement'

The stark jail cell where the accused Christchurch gunman is reportedly being held in solitary confinement has been described as a cream and brown-coloured space with 17kg concrete-block walls.

Brenton Tarrant, 28, is understood to be under 24-hour surveillance at Paremoremo maximum-security prison in Auckland, and has been refused access to newspapers, television and radio, the New Zealand Herald reported.

The Australian's likely surroundings are a 8.99sq m cell with heartbeat detectors, security doors that unlock with fingerprint scanners and a five-layered fence.

Each cell is 3.1m wide by 2.9m long and contains a single heavy-duty steel bed built into the wall, a window, a desk, and a toilet and shower visible to all staff via cameras.

A domed ceiling mirror also allowing guards to see into the entire cell from outside the horizontal bars sitting behind high-security glass.

Maximum-security inmates spend up to 20 hours a day in their cells, prison director Andy Langley said.

Paremoremo prison, which recently underwent a $300million rebuild, holds 681 inmates and is home to some of New Zealand's most dangerous criminals. The maximum-security wing holds 260 inmates.

The prison is the country's only maximum-security detention facility.

All rooms are located on the ground floor, and individual wings spanning out from the centre can be shut down if fires or riots break out.

Without access to outside world information, Tarrant will be unable to obtain reports on the Christchurch mosque massacre he's accused of carrying out last Friday.

Tarrant will not be permitted to receive visitors while behind bars, the Department of Corrections said.

'He is being managed in accordance with the provisions set out in the Corrections Act 2004 and our international obligations for the treatment of prisoners.

'At this time he has no access to television, radio or newspapers and no approved visitors,' Corrections said in a statement.

Authorities have tried to shroud Tarrant's exact whereabouts in secrecy, but the Department of Corrections did state they had been assisted by 'other agencies' in moving the 28-year-old from Christchurch to his new location.

Corrections Minister Kelvin Davis declined to comment in regards to Tarrant's exact location on Tuesday, Stuff reported.

'I'm not going to go into any operational things. You've got to remember that the safety of Corrections officers is most paramount and I'm not going to say anything to jeopardise that,' he said.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
