«Breaking News» Florida sheriff's office announces Shaquille O'Neal as their new deputy in the auxiliary department

There's a new deputy sheriff in Florida and he goes by the name of 'Deputy Shaq'.

The Broward County Sheriff's Office said former basketball star Shaquille O'Neal will now be working as a sheriff's deputy in the auxiliary department. 

'Basketball legend @SHAQ goes by many nicknames, and now added to that list is Deputy Shaq,' the sheriff's office announced in a tweet and on Facebook.  

'The big man now works as an auxiliary deputy with the #BSO,' the tweeted read.

In several photos the four-time NBA champ is seen towering over other officers from the department. 

He is also seen shaking hands with Sheriff Gregory Tony, who sat down with O'Neal to talk about the 'different ways law enforcement works to keep communities safe'.

Details about O'Neal's duties were not released. 

The 7-foot-1 superstar - who has uncles who were police officers and has idolized their roles since his teen years - was sworn in as an honorary deputy in Clayton County, Georgia, in 2016. 

He was sworn in as a reserve police officer at departments in California, Florida and Arizona and as a deputy marshal in Lafayette, Louisiana

In 2017, the retired basketball Hall of Famer said he had plans to run for sheriff in Henry County, Georgia.

At the time, O'Neal said he had just bought a home there after signing a contract extension with TNT in 2015.

He said he wants to run for sheriff because he believes he can restore his community's faith in the police force and 'bring people together'.

Details about O'Neal's duties were not released. This isn't the first time O'Neal has been sworn as a deputy. He was sworn in as an honorary deputy in Clayton County, Georgia, in 2016 and as a reserve police officer at departments in California, Florida and Arizona

O'Neal is currently a studio analyst for TNT and NBA TV. Both are based in Atlanta. He retired from professional basketball in 2011 after making more than $286million over the course of his basketball career

'This is not about politics, this is about bringing people closer together,' he told NBC.

'You know, when I was coming up, people loved and respected the police, the deputies. And I want to be the one to bring that back, especially in the community I serve.'

While O'Neal has held a few roles in law enforcement, his positions have mostly been unpaid and honorary. 

O'Neal is currently a studio analyst for TNT and NBA TV. Both are based in Atlanta.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
