«Breaking News» Firefighter has his hand and toes amputated after a suspected pulled muscle turned out to be SEPSIS

A firefighter who lost his right hand to sepsis after thinking he had only torn a muscle has begun his road to recovery.

Josh Woodward, who worked at Albany Airport in New York, had to have his hand and all his toes amputated after medics found an infection which had spread all over his body.

The father-of-two was initially given just a five per cent chance of surviving after the infection was discovered in his heart, lungs, kidneys and liver.

He was put into intensive care where he had a total of seven surgeries, but is now in recovery and his kidneys are able to function again without dialysis.

Describing what happened, the family said: 'On Monday, February 4, on their usual date night, Josh mentioned that he thought he'd pulled a muscle in his arm and it was sore.

'Being a firefighter, this isn't an unlikely occurrence.

'The next day he woke up with a fever but thought absolutely nothing of it, figured he caught what their two young kids had a few days prior and expected a few days of yuck.

'Wednesday night, over night, the pain from the "pulled muscle" became excruciating and the fever persisted.

'Chelsea and Josh assumed he must have actually torn a muscle and figured he should go to the ER for some meds to help ease the pain and maybe a sling for his arm.

'Within a couple of hours a doctor was calling her from his phone saying she needed to get back to the hospital ASAP if she wanted to see him before he went in for emergency surgery. Josh did not have a flu, he was septic.

'The infection was so bad all near his arm and chest it took the doctors about two hours to operate on him just to clean out as much of the infection as they could, but by the time they got in there, it had already spread to his heart, lungs, kidney, and liver.'

His wife Chelsea, a photographer, has had to take time off work to help her husband recover and maintain stability for their children, Jax, five, and three-year-old Holland.

Writing on Facebook yesterday, Chelsea said: 'Don’t look back you’re not going that way! Today was a big day.

'Obviously the biggest new being Josh’s kidneys are functioning and he no longer needs dialysis.

'Next we started working with a wheel chair today. We did some transfers from the bed to the chair and we went for a walk down the hall.

'The next few days he will see every single doctor he has (lots) who have to individually clear him for discharge. And then he’s coming home.'

She has created a page on the social media site called 'Woodward Strong' to document Josh's struggle with sepsis, which has so far been liked more than 78,500 times.

A GoFundMe account set up to help the family and first responders in need has raised more than $112,000 since it was created on February 8.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
