«Breaking News» Devout Catholic mother, 44, reported to police

A Catholic mother who was reported to police after she called a transgender woman 'he' in a tweet has spoken of her fear she would become a legal test case.

Caroline Farrow was told she was under investigation for using the wrong pronoun for charity chief Susie Green's 23-year-old daughter, who had gender reassignment surgery in Thailand at the age of 16. Surrey Police later dropped the probe.

Mrs Farrow today told Good Morning Britain of her shock after police came to her home. 'I was terrified, I was shaking, I couldn't breathe, the room was spinning,' she said. 'I thought they would try and make a test case out of me.'

Miss Farrow, a writer for Catholic journals, took issue with Miss Green, who is chief executive of the transgender children's charity Mermaids, after the pair clashed on a previous episode of Good Morning Britain.

The campaigner's transgender daughter Jackie Green was born Jack before becoming one of the youngest people in the world to undergo sex-change surgery.

Mrs Farrow's tweets, posted in October, referred to Jackie as 'him' and said Miss Green's charity was promoting child abuse. Mrs Farrow was subsequently told by a police officer the posts risked being an offence under the Malicious Communications Act.

But today she denied any malicious intent, telling Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid: 'I wasn't targeting Susie Green's child. I made those tweets ten days after the original debate and I hadn't tagged her in. I wasn't tweeting at her, I was tweeting about her.

'Susie Green is a public figure who runs a lobby group which has access to Westminster and influences public policy in this country.

'If Susie Green was a private individual I would not have said a word. But she uses her child as advocacy for her lobby position.'

When challenged about whether she is being too personal and hurtful in her views, Mrs Farrow said: 'The thing is, the truth is the truth...on this issue we need to tell the truth. It's not about [being hurtful].'

What is the Malicious Communications Act?

The Malicious Communications Act prohibits the posting of material which is grossly offensive or threatening, false or believed to be false, if it is sent with the intent to cause distress or anxiety.

Sentences for those found guilty under this act can be up to two years.

In 2012, guidance was given to prosecutors which stated cases should not where what is posted is 'not obviously beyond what could conceivably be tolerable or acceptable in a diverse society which upholds and respects freedom of expression'.

The guidelines stated: 'In line with the free-speech, no prosecution should be brought unless it can be shown on its own facts and merits to be both necessary and proportionate.'

The case sparked a row over whether police should be spending time examining tweets rather than pumping more resources into tackling violence and theft.

Mrs Farrow wrote in October: 'What Susie Green did to her own son is illegal. She mutilated him by having him castrated and rendered sterile while he was a child

'Susie Green may feel that giving her son off label illegal medication aged 11 and drastic surgery was the path of least harm in her circumstances but she shouldn't project and impose it on other vulnerable kids as best practice.

'But as Posie Parker found out when you criticise Susie Green for castrating her 16-year-old son, she writes pages of cant (sic) describing her journey and reporting you to the police for hurting her feelings.

'I think it's time everyone called out Susie Green and Mermaids policy out for what it is. Child abuse.'

A spokesman for the Mermaid Trust last night said Jackie was 'deeply upset' by Mrs Farrow's comments by the reference to her as being mutilated, castrated and sterilised.

He said: 'These statements are, and are intended to be, as hurtful as possible. Jackie is distressed at the assertion that this was something that was somehow done 'to her'.

'The only people deliberately doing anything 'to her' are the online trolls using the most abusive language about her. She would like the online abuse to stop.

'By 16, she had undertaken extensive psychological assessment from independent experts before she was cleared for, and undertook, gender reassignment surgery. Her competency and full knowledge of all the implications was clear.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
