«Breaking News» CNN site filled with stories submitted by readers was a source for the Trump 'dirty dossier'

Part of British spy Christopher Steele's infamous 'dirty dossier' was based on unverified information submitted to a now-defunct CNN site, court papers reveal.

Steele was forced to make the embarrassing admission during a court case involving Russian internet entrepreneur Aleksej Gubarev, who he accused of helping Russian hackers attack the DNC in his report.

While being quizzed over what information he found against Webzilla and XBT, two of Gubarev's companies, Steele quoted CNN's iReport as a source.

'What do you understand iReports to be on CNN?,' one of the examiners asked him, according to a transcript seen by Fox News.

'I do not have any particular knowledge of that,' he responded.

When asked whether he understood that the reports have no connection to CNN reporters, he answered: 'I do not.'

'Do you understand that CNN iReports are or were nothing more than any random individuals’ assertions on the Internet?', the examiner cotinued.

'No, I obviously presume that if it is on a CNN site that it may have [sic] some kind of CNN status. Albeit that it may be an independent person posting on the site.'

The court case took place last year, but papers were only just unsealed after legal action by newspapers.

Gubarev had been attempting to sue Buzzfeed for publishing the dossier, saying it had defamed his companies.

The case was ultimately dismissed after a judge ruled that Buzzfeed's decision to publish the information was protected under the law.

However, the court papers also reveal that a former FBI cyber security expert, Anthony J. Ferrante, found evidence that Gubarev's networks were used to conduct hacking operations.

Those operations include the 2015 attack on the Ukrainian power network, and the 2016 DNC hack, Ferrante said.

However, he could find no evidence that Gubarev knew that his networks were being used in this way, and could not say whether he cooperated with the hackers.

It comes after a weekend in which Trump twice attacked the McCain family after the court papers revealed the dossier was leaked to Buzzfeed by an official at the McCain Institute.

'So it was indeed (just proven in court papers) “last in his class” (Annapolis) John McCain that sent the Fake Dossier to the FBI and Media hoping to have it printed BEFORE the Election. He & the Dems, working together, failed (as usual). Even the Fake News refused this garbage!', the president wrote on Sunday.

Earlier in the morning he tweeted a report from 'Fox and Friends' that Christopher Steele, the former British spy who researched and wrote the dossier, used information obtained from CNN in compiling the material.

'Report: Christopher Steele backed up his Democrat & Crooked Hillary paid for Fake & Unverified Dossier with information he got from “send in watchers” of low ratings CNN. This is the info that got us the Witch Hunt!,' the president wrote.

On Saturday, Trump said John McCain leaking the 'dirty dossier' was 'dark stain' on his legacy.

Meghan McCain slapped back at the president, saying he will never be loved.

'No one will ever love you the way they loved my father.... I wish I had been given more Saturday’s with him. Maybe spend yours with your family instead of on twitterobsessing over mine?' the View co-host tweeted.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
