Ciara abstained from sex while getting to know football player Russell Wilson so that they could build a solid foundation to their relationship.
And the 33-year-old singer told the April issue of InStyle it was not easy.
'Abstaining took a lot of prayer. It was hard. I can’t lie,' said the knockout to the monthly fashion magazine.
The two started dating in early 2015.
And by the summer Russell explained why they were not having sex.
'I said to her – and she completely agreed – "Can we love each other without that?"' the Seattle Seahawks quarterback said. 'If you can love somebody without that, then you can really love somebody.'
They wed in 2016 and soon after she became pregnant with their first child Sienna.

And she added that they more have more kids: 'I want to have as many kids as I can. My kids keep me young. They keep me active. They give me purpose. They just make it all make sense.'
She also shares son Future Jr with rapper Future.
The beauty dropped the baby weight fast after welcoming Sienna, something she said came from determination.
'I would wake up in the morning, breastfeed, eat a small meal, go train, come back home, pump, eat a small meal, breastfeed, eat lunch, and then go train again,' she said.
'I truly believe that self-love is key. And my definition of self-love is taking care of myself.'
She also admitted that she gained more than 60lbs with her pregnancy. 'I ate so much. Fries, mac and cheese, corn bread. I wanted stuffing when it wasn’t even Thanksgiving … I’m a Southern girl. We like to eat!' she said.
On Tuesday night they were seen heading to the swanky New York restaurant Mr Chow.
The 33-year-old beauty modeled a red and monochrome fur coat, though whether the fur was real or faux was unclear.

Meanwhile, her dashing NFL husband warded off the wintertime chill in a fleece jacket that complemented his thick tan boots.

Ciara and Russell brought the two children they raise together - her son Future, four, and their daughter Sienna, one - to their St Bart's holiday with some pals.
On Tuesday, Ciara shared a heartwarming Instagram video that showed the family dancing gleefully on the deck of a yacht in the Caribbean to Perm by Bruno Mars.

In one especially entertaining Instagram video Ciara posted from their getaway, she could be seen watersliding off the yacht into the sea with her wig still on.
Naturally, the ride left her hairpiece a little lopsided so Russell, already in the water, began swimming toward her saying gallantly: 'Let me fix your wig.'
Sienna is Ciara and Russell's biologically, whereas Future is the singer's son by her ex-fiance, rapper Future, whose birth name is Nayvadius Wilburn.
Ciara and Nayvadius broke up in 2014 as rumors swirled that he was unfaithful. She married Russell at a Victorian country house in Cheshire, England in 2016.
Two days before Valentine's Day this year, Ciara released her latest single Greatest Love, which she co-wrote as well as singing.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
