«Breaking News» Bruins' forward Marcus Johansson hospitalized after vicious hit from Carolina's Michael Ferland

Boston Bruins forward Marcus Johansson was sent to the hospital after a clean hit from the Carolina Hurricanes' Michael Ferland, who ultimately was forced to leave Tuesday's game after Johansson's teammate instigated a fight with him in retaliation.

In the first period in Boston on Tuesday night, Johansson absorbed a clean, shoulder-to-shoulder hit that appeared to give the recently acquired Swedish winger whiplash. He went to the locker room and was ultimately taken to the hospital with what was described as an upper-body injury.

Johansson does have a history of concussions.

'It looks encouraging,' Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy told reporters after Tuesday's overtime win, as quoted by NESN. 'But I don't want to speak out of turn. When tests are done, we'll have a better answer.'

Ferland, himself, was briefly airborne and fell hard after the hit, but managed to stay in the game at that point.

Later, however, when Bruins forward David Backes dropped gloves with Ferland, the Hurricanes' winger was forced to make an early exit.

Backes and Ferland clearly knew a fight was imminent because on the ensuing faceoff, the two dropped gloves as soon as the puck hit the ice. After a few quick punches, Ferlanded landed on top of Backes and the two were separated.

But even though he wasn't visibly beaten, Ferland appeared to hurt his shoulder on the play and left the game with an upper-body injury.

He had previously missed nine games with a shoulder injury earlier this season.

The physical play on Tuesday was fitting, given the fact that the Hurricanes were wearing their old Hartford Whalers jerseys.

The franchise began in Hartford in 1971 as part of the old WHA. After the merger with the NHL in 1979, the Whalers became a natural rival for the Bruins, who beat Hartford in two famously bloody playoff matchups in 1990 and 1991.

In 1997, the Whalers moved to Raleigh, North Carolina and became the Carolina Hurricanes.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
