«Breaking News» Alyssa Milano is slammed for calling herself transgender, disabled

Alyssa Milano has sparked anger with a tweet she posted on Friday in honor of International Women's Day.

The actress' initial tweet was harmless enough as she wrote: 'My transgender sisters! I am celebrating YOU this #NationalWomensDay!'

Soon enough someone named Kirk Brown replied asking, 'Alyssa are you transgender?' which is when Alyssa, 46, responded... and things got confusing.

'I'm trans. I'm a person of color. I'm an immigrant. I'm a lesbian. I'm a gay man. I'm the disabled. I'm everything. And so are you, Kirk,' she wrote, adding, 'Don't be afraid of what you don’t know or understand. No one wants to hurt you. We are all just looking for our happily ever after.'

Despite clearly not meaning it in the literal sense, the former Charmed star attracted much criticism for her tweet, with many pointing out her place of privilege as a successful white woman.

One follower replied: 'No. You are an advocate. Be ok with that. This isn't the way to say you are with us. You can't just fake an experience you don’t have.

'You don't navigate any space like these groups. This is the 'I don’t see color' approach which is oppression and erasure,'

'How about stop focusing on identity politics and simply recognize each person's individual dignity void of these 'progressive'markers of victimhood? Stop adhering to the 'I'm a victim therefore I am' ethos.' came another tweet.

Another user chimed in: 'Had no idea you were a transgender. And you have the narcissism to think you can relate to everyone's life. No you’re a white woman who feels that she needs to be ashamed so she takes on the role of hating herself to make sure no one hates her. Facts.'

After getting lots of backlash Alyssa explained that she was basing her tweet on a Rumi quote 'Whatever you love, you are.'

A particularly scathing response came from writer Rob Gavagan, who tweeted: 'Supporting trans people, people of color, immigrants, lesbians, gay men, and disabled people is all well and good. Claiming to BE them just because you 'love' them is just sort of asinine and perverts the idea of being an ally.

'I support disabled people. Doesn’t mean I’m disabled ... And to say that I am disabled in ANY way is a lie and entirely unhelpful to the people you claim to support. This isn't St. Paddy’s day where 'everyone’s Irish for a day!' This is real world s**t. So perhaps you should choose a more tactful way to be supportive. This is repugnant.'

After receiving a barrage of complaints Alyssa tweeted again, 'I’m glad this tweet invoked conversation. I’m so sorry it offended some,

'I see you and hear you. But just a reminder, empathy is not a bad thing. Nuance is important and literal interpretation is not always intended. And I can identify with and not identify as. Both are powerful.'

She later explained that she was inspired by a Rumi quote.

'The great Rumi quote was my intention!' she wrote, including an earlier post with some words from the poet reading 'This is a subtle truth. Whatever you love, you are.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
