A retired firefighter and former paramedic has been killed while helping a 'drunk driver' at the scene of a car crash in Florida.
Wesley Weysham, 59, was driving down Interstate 75 in Hillsborough County at around 4.40am on Sunday morning when he came across two crashed vehicles blocking lanes of the highway.
Veronica Gonzalez, 31, of Ruskin, had crashed into George Edward Evans III's pick-up truck after he pulled up on the inside travel lane of southbound Interstate 75 close to the U.S. 301 exit.
Cops say 32-year-old Evans, 32, of Ruskin, had been drinking.
Weysham, of North Port, Sarasota County, stopped and got out of his car to help drag Evans out of his Toyota Tacoma truck and began giving him medical treatment on the hard shoulder of the highway.
Tragically, as he was helping the alleged drink driver, Weysham was hit by another car.
A Toyota Camry driven by Samuel Maldonado Flores, 24, from Ruskin, struck Evans' truck which spun and hit Weysham, before bursting into flames.
The car that struck Weysham burst into flames. The 59-year-old died at the scene
Four people and three cars were involved in the crash that happened on Sunday morning
The driver of the Buick LeSabre, Veronica Gonzalez, 31, has serious injuries
Weysham died at the scene.
Flores, Evans and Gonzalez were all taken to nearby hospitals.
Gonzalez is listed as in a serious condition.
Weysham was a Navy veteran who served in the Gulf War.
He retired as a firefighter in 2017 and was also a licensed paramedic.
He appeared in the news just over 10 years ago when his bloodhounds helped in the search for Carlie Brucia, an 11-year-old murder victim, as reported by the Tampa Bay Times.
Charges in the case are pending.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
