One of Britain's most wanted fugitives has been extradited from Switzerland back to the UK.

Alleged fraudster Mark Acklom, 46, is said to have fleeced a woman out of £850,000 in life savings after posing as an MI6 agent in a romance scam.

A spokesman for the National Crime Agency (NCA) said it had worked closely with partners in Switzerland and Avon and Somerset Police to bring about the extradition and put Acklom before the British courts.

A photo published by Sky News on Friday night showed Acklom getting off a plane in Bristol.

A European Arrest Warrant was issued for Acklom in June 2016 and he was believed to be at large in Spain, having been released from a Spanish prison over a £200,000 property fraud.

In May 2017 he was spotted in Geneva, where he was believed to have been with his family.

Acklom was arrested in Switzerland in July last year, after being found at a luxury apartment in Zurich where he had been living under a false name after more than two years on the run.

He is accused of 12 offences of converting or removing criminal property and eight of fraud by false representation.

Ian Cruxton, head of international operations for the NCA, said: 'We have worked closely with our partners in Switzerland and Avon and Somerset Police to bring about this extradition and put Mark Acklom before the UK courts.

Acklom has been on the Crimestoppers Most Wanted list for nearly a year, accused of fleecing a woman of her £850,000 life savings.

He met Gloucestershire clothes shop boss Carolyn Woods, 57, in 2012 and over several years persuaded her to hand over her life savings 

The swindle was the culmination of a lifetime of fraud which began when he was just 16 and posed as a City stockbroker to secure a six-figure mortgage.

'This case once again demonstrates our ability to track down fugitives wherever they may be.

'The NCA's international reach means there is no safe place to hide for individuals wanted in the UK.'

Both Acklom and his wife have previously set up property businesses and police believe their daughters may have been attending a fee-paying school. 

Acklom, a former public schoolboy, is well-spoken. He drives flash cars (Porsches, Maseratis, BMWs), dines in Michelin-starred restaurants and travels first class. 

He has gone by dozens of false names in the past including Marc Ros Rodriguez, Zac Moss, Mark Conway, George Kennedy, Marc Saunders, or Marco Rossi. 

Depending on who you speak to, he is either a banker, property developer, event manager, gynaecologist or secret agent. 

He has amassed millions during his criminal career persuading other people to part with theirs. He is now on the run in Spain after British police issued a warrant for his arrest. 

Many of those he fleeced were women. And the motive wasn’t only financial. One model he targeted told us how he offered her £50,000-a-year to work for him. She ended up taking part in a raunchy photoshoot and being asked intimate questions.

Others, we have learnt, include a doctor and pharmaceuticals executive who, according to a family member, gave him tens of thousands of pounds.

Unbeknown to these women, Acklom already has a wife. She is Maria Yolanda Ros Rodriguez, 48, the mother of two of his children and the exotic beauty who accompanied him to Ascot not long before he was placed on Interpol’s ‘most wanted’ list.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
