«Breaking News» NRA ‘Target Practice’ headline sparks outrage

The National Rifle Association has sparked outrage with its March issue of the American Rifleman, with what many have described as a 'call for violence' against Nancy Pelosi and Gabrielle Giffords.

Written by Chris W. Cox, the NRA Chief Lobbyist goes on to describe Pelosi as an 'arch anti-gunner', and called her motion 'deceptively marketed' and a 'broadside against gun ownership in America.

Huffington Post reporter Jennifer Bendery posted an image of the article to Twitter on Friday evening, sparking an onslaught of criticism against the NRA and the suggestive composition of the image and headline.

Leading the condemnation, Representative Eric Swalwell accused the NRA of attempting to insight violence against Pelosi and Giffords, and said those responsible should face legal action.

'This is a call for violence by the NRA who was nearly killed by Gunfire and [Nancy Pelosi], the most powerful legislator in America,' the tweet began.

'The NRA should face legal consequences. But let's put them out of business with with boycotts and ballot boxes. #EnoughIsEnough'

On January 8 2011, former Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords survived an attempted assassination after she was shot in the head by Jared Loughner during a government event in Casas Adobes.

Narrowly escaping with her life, tweeters were quick to suggest that the magazine's editorial insensitivity was no accident.

'Magazine covers and titles are highly thought out. People get a lot of money on decisions like this,' said Fred Guttenberg, the father of Jaime Guttenberg who was killed in the Parkland school shootings in Florida last year.

'The decision in NRA magazine to have an article titles Target Practice next to a photo of Pelosi and Giffords is intentional. This is incitement of violence and not OK!,' he added.

Republican Congressman Dan Crenshaw, however, jumped to the defense of the pro-gun non-profit, insisting the 'article is about legislation targeting gun owners, not the NRA targeting Democrats,' he tweeted on Sunday.

'If you goal is to ensure that 'outrage culture' is alive and well, continuing to divide us, congrats.'

Pelosi's daughter, Christine, begged to differ and voiced her opinion that the article was a declaration of 'hate speech' and shouldn't get in the way of 'common sense gun violence protection'.

Last month, Democrats unveiled a landmark gun safety legislation on the eight anniversary of Giffords' shooting.

The bill, which is expected to stall in the Republican-controlled Senate, would expand background checks for all sales and transfers of firearms across the country.

In a speech, Giffords - who co-founded a gun safety group with her husband Mark Kelly - said the bill was a necessary step in ending the gun-violence epidemic that killed nearly 40,000 people in 2017.

'[The bill] marks a critical first step toward strengthening America's gun laws and making our country a safer place to live, work, study, worship and play,' Giffords said. 'I stand ready to do everything in my power to get this legislation across the finish line.'

Pelosi called the bill on background checks a common-sense measure and cited polls showing 97 percent of Americans support background checks for all gun sales.

The NRA's latest magazine issue surfaced shortly after a number of high-profile government officials were revealed as targets of believed or explicit threats.

Political spin-doctor, Roger Stone - who is currently under indictment charges brought against him the the Mueller investigation - posted a photo of the judge handling his case with what resembled firearm cross-hairs, the New York Times reported.

Nancy Pelosi appeared on a list with several other democrats that was put together by 'domestic terrorist' Christopher Hasson.

According to the FBI, Hasson planned to assassinate all of those named.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
