«Breaking News» Middle school strip search claims prompt state...

A New York middle school is under investigation after four African-American girls claim they were strip-searched by two members of staff.

The alleged victims, all 12, say they were forced to undress themselves at the request of a school nurse and assistant principle, who believed they were acting suspiciously.

The girls say the two staff members of East Middle School in Binghamton accused them of being in possession of drugs because they seemed 'hyper' on January 15.

They then claim they were taken to the school's health office where they were interrogated and strip-searched for drugs.

However, school officials vehemently refute the claims, denying that a strip-search ever took place and instead stating administrators at the school conducted routine medical assessment of the girls instead.

Now, under the instructions of Governor Andrew Cuomo, the State Education Department has been summoned to get to the bottom of the incident.

'The allegations that 12-year-old girls were strip-searched after being perceived as "hyper and giddy" at a Binghamton middle school are deeply disturbing and raise serious concerns of racial and gender bias,' Cuomo said in a statement.

'Asking a child to remover her clothing - and then commenting on her body - is shaming, humiliating, traumatic sexual harassment.'

The school district announced an independent third party will be investigating the incident, but maintains there is no evidence a strip search ever took place.

'It must be reiterated, we have no evidence that a strip search was conducted by administration,' the district said.

'We only turn to medical assessment if we find clear reason to be concerned for our students' safety and health, which is what occurred in this instance.'

News of the allegations was shared widely across social media, which lead to local community organizations protesting the school's stance and rallying in support of the students.

On Tuesday, more than 200 people braved freezing temperatures to picket the school over what they perceived to be an example of institutional racism.

They called for Principal Tim Simonds to resign, along with the accused nurse and assistant principal.

The two staff members accused haven't been named by the School, but East Middle currently has two serving assistant principles, Michelle Rayleigh and Ronald Smith.

Parents of the four girls released a statement this week, declaring their daughters were 'told to remove their clothing to be searched or drugs and other substances' in an hour-long procedure.

They further stated they weren't informed of the searches by the school until their daughters told them about it.

One of the alleged victims was suspended by the school for not complying with the search, a parent said.

They also outlined how each of the girls missed several days of school after January 15, because they 'no longer feel safe at East Middle.'

According to the school district's guideline handbook, strip-searches 'are almost never justified'.

It defines strip-searching as a 'search that inquires a student to remove any or all of his/her clothing, other than an outer coat or jacket.'

And it later elaborates the practice will only be permitted when attempting to prevent a danger, when the safety of others is at risk, or where the search is very likely to yield evidence.

Any use of the search under these terms should also see authorities contacted immediately as well as parents, the handbook says.

'Listening to our children recount and relive this trauma has been an experience we would not wish on any parent,' the girls' families said.

'And we hope no other child has to experience what they have endured.'

The school district has stated numerous times that a strip-search never took place.

They said staff at the school are 'trained to recognize behavior that is out of character', and medical examinations will be conducted in those instances.

The district say they welcome the forthcoming investigation after a 'lot of misinformation was spread on social media'.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
